http://www.politicker.com/2012/03/08/barron-racist-court-map-is-trying-to-draw-us-back-on-the-planation-video/

“I think the first thing we got to do is stop calling the judge ‘Master,’” he declared. “Trying to draw us back on the plantation. So I’m going to say ‘judge,’ because we have no master.”

“It is obvious that these drawing are racist,” he continued, before analyzing the demographics in districts across the state.

“In the white districts: 96.5% white, 86.3% white, 70% white, 84% white. In 13 of these districts, the white majority population in those districts goes from 70% to 96%, to protect those districts, to make sure that those whites stay in office,” he said.

This all contrasts, Mr. Barron contended, with the district he lives in, where the black percentage of the population declined relative to the white population.

Although it was inevitable these majority-black districts would be diluted somewhat in redistricting — the African-American population of Brooklyn decreased, after all — Mr. Barron saw it as a deliberate attempt to weaken the black community’s voice.

Democratic Congresswoman Kathy Hochul is drawn out of her upstate district, and she is thrown into a less Democratic swath. With the exception of Rep. Bob Turner – whose Brooklyn/Queens district was eliminated – all the male elected officials who were drawn out of their districts were left with viable re-election options, the source noted.

you just like circle jerking to this kind of stuff. It confirms all the ethnocentric views you hold, doesn't it?

I seriously have to wonder if anyone ever actually believes this type of garbage or if it's just an easy excuse to complain about redistricting maps they don't like (even though far more valid reason to complain about said maps almost always exist.)

What we have here is a basic lack of belief in Baker v Carr. It's not the first time that black politicians in districts losing population have voiced such a belief, either.

I'd have reported this for hyperbole but it's hard to infract Brooklyn councilmen.

http://www.capitaltonight.com/2012/03/source-pelosi-gets-involved-in-ny-redistricting/

“Every male Democratic member of Congress has a path to run – even in a difficult district – and still win election, but the court’s maps are a real hit to women,” the source said. “They take out Hochul. She’s out of range, and doesn’t come back. Her district is gone. Louise Slaughter goes down to like a 53 percent district, so she’s a casualty…He’s also hearing from women’s groups that if (he) does nothing and lets map go into effect he’s got a concern from them.”

Lol?
