The truth, although people increasingly don't want to believe it.

An oft-repeated, but false, dichotomy. Despite what you see in the movies, the world isn't divided neatly between two classes of people, "Good, Law-Abiding Citizens" and "Outlaws". Most of the gun deaths Fineman is talking about are like the guy who pulls out a gun in after a drunken fight over a woman, the three year old that accidentally shoots herself, the estranged husband that offs his whole family and then himself, the hunter that accidentally puts a bullet through an Amish girl a mile away, the Navy SEAL that shoots himself in the head showing off to his girlfriend, the young woman who accidentally shoots herself rummaging through her purse, the brother who shoots his sister in a fit of jealously and then collapses sobbing in remorse... and other such crap. Previously law-abiding citizens, for the most part, who simply go "postal", or make a mistake. It's common sense why the statistics are the way they are actually... the more guns lying around, the more likely someone is to get shot. The more baseball bats lying around, the more likely someone is going to hit by one. The most elementary logic, yet so politicized, because guns make it so much easier to kill.

Really?  Despite the fact that people who open or conceal carry are almost NEVER involved in a gun homicide?  Really?[/quote]

Oops, I modified this post instead of responding to it, by accident. I am very sorry about this! If anyone knows how to get the old version back, PM me?

Mostly nonsense. I do think there's some truth to the last line, though.

Maybe the part about England doing it for the point of safety (though I don't really agree, I can at least see that part having some attempt at truth in it), the second part is pretty silly.  We don't have relatively liberal gun laws because the gun manufactures want it that way (though I'm sure their lobby helps), we have relatively liberal gun laws because there are millions of Americans that enjoy the various gun based hobbies AND the people that wrote our Bill of Rights thought it would be a good idea to write it down so future governments would have a harder time taking them away.

I think the first sentence is logical and well written, and I agree with it.  The rest of it is poorly written and bordering on hysteria.  Some of it is factually inaccurate.  I voted for the fourth option.

Option 4.

The truth. Handgun bans are brilliant.

"When guns are outlawed, only outlaws have guns."
And the police (and military), whose job it is to protect people.  Generally countries with gun bans are the safest.
You may disagree with it based on a "personal freedom" approach, but hes opening  statement is factually correct. The rest of the quote is rather unclear and seems a bit foolish.

Are you kidding me?! Australia's crime rate spiked after they banned guns. Armed robberies have risen by around 50% since 1996 because criminals are still able to get guns even if they're illegal.
