Interesting. We were never taught this in school (gee, that's a surprise). I always had the impression it was at least a very large minority.

Do you have a source for that?

I remember being taught that in school.

Um, okay. It isn't in my text book.

What do you mean "yawn?"

I'd imagine that most textbooks, when discussing the slave-ownership in the south would probably mention percentages somewhere.

And by "yawn" I mean that your comparison between economic taxation and physical slavery is absurd.

Shrug.  I remember learning in history class (with an outdated textbook) that most of the South didn't own slaves, and of those that did, most of them owned only one or two.  It was a while ago though.

My mistake (I apologize).  I thought you were ranting about economic taxation being the same thing as slavery.
