Are there any rumors or stories as to what this is about?  Did she just fail to report income, or what was considered income, because she took "gifts" or had a business and had phoney expense deductions or what?  It has to be pretty egregious for your tax reporting problems to be deemed appropriate to treat as a criminal rather than civil matter.
