Dominique Strauss-Kahn is in legal trouble yet again, after facing previous allegations of sexual harassment, 2 attempted rapes(one in France & NYC last spring and involvement with a sex trafficking ring back in France. Now he is facing allegations both in Lillie, and in Washington that he took part in a gang rape of a Belgian escort in a DC hotel room in 2012 while he was still head of the IMF.

Imagine if the scandal hadn't come out last year and it all suddenly poured forth either just prior to the first round, or between the first and second, or even right after he had been elected President.

Reminds me of John Edwards.

That would have been interesting.

Something I've always wondered and I've expressed this on the forum, was what if he had been President of France when the NYC maid scandal and now this had come out? I wonder what the legal ramifications would have been?

DSK makes Edward's look like a saint in comparison IMO.

In most countries he would have diplomatic immunity. I assume that would have been the case in the US as well.

Really?

I think I read otherwise somewhere when all this began?

DSK's claims of diplomatic immunity have been rejected because when he came to the US on that trip, it was as a private citizen and not as the head of the IMF.

Does he?  It's difficult to determine who is worse between someone who rapes maids because he can, and another who cheated on his wife who was battling terminal cancer.

Not really.  I can't imagine any circumstances in which adultery would be consider to be as bad as rape, let alone worse.

Well, forcible rape anyways.  Statutory rape of a girl just below the age of consent and obviously post-pubescent or the "he got me drunk and I felt really pressured!" variety of course might be preferable to cheating on one's cancer-stricken wife.

I can't think of any situation in which non-consensual sex would be less heinous than consensual sex.

Neither can I.

The very tentative of comparison is despicable.

After the lady in New York was confirmed as a liar I have a hard time believing these kinds of allegations.

Why? He was known for this sort of behavior even beforehand. There was a reason why that was believable.

Believe it or not, it is extremely uncommon to outright fake rape allegations. What's much more common is differences of opinion on what constitutes rape.

No she wasn't.

If it weren't for Silvio B, I would say that DSK is most the ridiculous person in the contemporary political scene. I mean, seriously? He should have been active during the third republic for the lolz.

Sure. We know that. But the (hypothetical) question was, what would have happened if he had done the same thing as president of France.

Probably the same, except I would expect the President of France to be busy enough to not come to the US except in his public capacity as President.
