To sum up, I really love this description of America as the place where walking the street is a suspicious activity, warranting a police investigation.

But of course it is.  Anybody who doesn't drive to get anywhere - even if it's just from your front door to your mailbox - is clearly a dangerous ecoterrorist.

I've walked around my neighborhood late at night in the rain. Should I be suspected?

The colors of: (1) your skin, (2) my skin, and (3) my avatar would suggest yes.  Once again, in this country the first way to reduce suspicion by the neighborhood watch is to get off the sidewalk and into a car.  Only poor people and young people walk anywhere, and those groups are likelier to commit crimes.

I can't imagine going away in a car in order to take a walk. Unless it's common it doesn't really affect my point either.

Yet again*, this is America.  To be considered an ordinary citizen and avoid suspicion, you must drive to get around, including when you're just walking.

* The perceived exasperation there isn't directed at you, Gus.

It's funny how most of the people (BRTD, being an exception) complaining about the reporting of Martin to the police don't actually live in the US.  Smiley

Actually you can count me in too.  There's probably more of us, but I expect a lot of people have thus far avoided this stupid thread, or don't see the point in wasting time debating anything with you.  I've been in the latter category.

Don't forget though, J. J. is a Republican living in a heavily black neighborhood (as he frequently likes to remind us).  I don't know how anybody could handle that kind of paranoia on a daily basis.
