Yup, they just kept him in a freezer for 30 years, when they didn't need him. Then the government had him reheated a couple of years ago, so they could brag about how Algeria had the eldest statesman in the Magrebh countries.

His opposition to the Iraq War in 2002-2003 made some headlines, as did his appointment to the African Union's "Council of the Wise" but yeah other than that he basically hadn't done anything notable since he was overthrown in 1965.
