I can almost assure you that these dudes did this because:

1) The CIA gave them a bunch of explosives, taught them how to use them and then arrested them. Thus the CIA can celebrate "catching terrorists."

2) Their D&D club broke up in a viscous dispute over who would be "games master." These five fellows were on the losing end (they all played as warrior elfens) and decided to instead play the game The Saboteur on PS3. Knowing that the "games master" who defeated their group in the power struggle had to use this bridge to get to his job at the Office Depot these anarchists decided to use the skills learned through The Saboteur to deathly effect. Oh, but the defeat was bitter.

3) The guy with the beard works at Game Stop and grew bored discussing how angry he was that the new Assassin's Creed was not taking place in feudal Japan. He walked into a used bookstore located in the mini-mall complex he works and picked up The Anarchist Cookbook because he liked the design of the book's cover. In reading this book he changed his political opinions from "none...but willing to be a liberal if it can get me laid" to "ANARCHIST!" His four other friends were easily converted to anarchism because of the cool black flags and the fact that they thought being an anarchist would piss of their dad and help them meet sexy European women anarchists. Alas, this was not to be their lot. Their attempt to blow up the bride was as unsuccessful as the first eight attempts to kill the Archduke on 28 June 1914. However, these five anarchists firmly remember why they fight. "For the wretched of the earth/there is a flame that never dies/even the darkest night will end/and the sun will rise!"

That's my take, anyway.

And you think this is a bad thing? If some one provides some one else with a "bomb" and the second person attempts to blow up a bridge- is that person NOT a terrorist? And is it not better to have them attempt terror by using fakes which can't hurt a soul then to just wait and see them try the real deal?
Well, I guess technically there is nothing all that wrong with the CIA giving explosives to people and telling them to use them and then arresting them. However, is it not kind of a waste of the CIA's time?
