In most countries he would have diplomatic immunity. I assume that would have been the case in the US as well.

I think I read otherwise somewhere when all this began?

DSK's claims of diplomatic immunity have been rejected because when he came to the US on that trip, it was as a private citizen and not as the head of the IMF.

DSK makes Edward's look like a saint in comparison IMO.

Does he?  It's difficult to determine who is worse between someone who rapes maids because he can, and another who cheated on his wife who was battling terminal cancer. 

Not really.  I can't imagine any circumstances in which adultery would be consider to be as bad as rape, let alone worse.

Sure. We know that. But the (hypothetical) question was, what would have happened if he had done the same thing as president of France.

Probably the same, except I would expect the President of France to be busy enough to not come to the US except in his public capacity as President.
