What's the most expensive fine you've had to pay? How much have you paid in total?

Unfortunately, I just received my newest ticket in the mail. A camera caught me at 38 km/h (24 mph) in a 30 km/h (19 mph) zone in front of a high school. I'm now 15 € poorer.

I've had quite a few in the $100-130 range, but the biggest was $180ish because it was a "construction" zone, even though it was 2 in the morning and nobody was out working.  I have no idea what the total would be, I'm guessing well north of a grand.

oh, and mostly speeding, a couple "failure to yields", a couple of run signals, one stop sign.

Despite the absurdly low speed limits (at least on Interstates, otherwise they're reasonable), you at least have the chance to talk your way out of a ticket when pulled over. And when the cops see the German license and I tell them about touring the country, sightseeing, etc....works like a charm. Been pulled over 5+ times for (rather excessive) speeding and never been ticketed.

Undortunately, the cameras here show no mercy. Wink At least they're relatively cheap.

I don't stand out in the crowd.....by changing lanes in and out, and I know where most of the speed traps are......also I don't drive through fly-over country.....too much traffic to go toooooo fast.

Well in a German (European) context, you don't have to draw attention to yourself, the camera gets everyone that's too fast.

In the States, I see what you mean, and I mostly do the same. Don't recall ever being pulled over in normal traffic. It's always in some relatively empty area far between points of interest where they post unreasonable 70 mph and I get caught doing 90.. Wink

I have only had one ticket in my entire 14 years of driving and that was for a wreck at age 17 on December 10, 1999.  That ticket was reduced to just a $30 court cost.  I have had several warnings for speeding over the years, but no tickets (nothing excessive, but enough to warrant a stop).  I have been very blessed in that regard, as I really did deserve the tickets in most of those scenarios, but I have been waived every time with just a warning.

After close to two years of jerking the system around, harassing my criminal defense lawyer to death (the poor guys are not used to heavy thinking much less doing anything involving more than the superficial and copying and pasting boilerplate when it comes to advocative writing, all of which I had to do myself), and the filing of a motion to suppress evidence, at which the cops failed to show up for the evidentiary hearing, because they called in at the last minute to say they were otherwise engaged, I finally got the prosecutor to just throw in the towel, and after refusing before, agree to plea bargain the unfortunate little incident to a "wet reckless." So that is what I pleaded "guilty" to, even though of course while perhaps a tad "wet," I certainly was not "reckless!" (I desire to enjoy my money a bit longer) Tongue. Oh the things conceived within the tangled webs we weave, to achieve fair justice so perceived. Smiley

Most expensive was $288. Apparantly, New Orleans takes its No Left Turn signs very seriously.

This was back in the old days before anybody had traffic cameras. I had to deal with a real life, pain in the a$$ police officer.

Ha ha, indeed.....be glad you didn't have a road soda in the car with you.......now the big rage down there is the traffic cams that cost $75 for 5mph over the limit.......time to outlaw them.

I'll probably double that this summer, now that I work in the "bad place"(from Opebo) aka Suburbia. I'll probably carpool with my dad most of the time though, so I will only have to drive half the time.
