I know that there are a few Game of Thrones/ASoIaF fans here. Who do you support in the current war? Does anyone have multiple, conflicting allegiances (I know I do...)? This may be posted a bit late, considering recent... developments. The asterisk is for obvious reasons.

Clearly Robb is the most likeable (if he can keep his stupid mother from farking things up further).  The dragon lady and the brothers would be the next most likable.  Greyjoy and Joffrey are both unlikable and Joffrey is one of the most unlikable people I've ever seen on TV.  He's up there with Janice Soprano and Ally McBeel.  Seeing him die is going to be great.

Haven't seen the series, but I've read all the books so far, and so for me the war of five kings is almost insignificant.

/pretentiousness

Robb Stark is clearly the one we're meant to support, but I'm in favour of Stannis because he is the rightful heir, so... him. Although Dani is cool.

Intrade odds on the War of the Five Kings get discussed in this mock Bloggingheads Game of Thrones discussion:

Stannis (and his onion knight sidekick) is really growing on me.  Good to see Rob realize his mother is good at only one thing, funking things up.  The Imp is one of the greatest characters ever.

Going by A Clash of Kings, since I just finished it and I haven't watched any of season 2: Robb > Renly > Stannis > Greyjoy > Joffrey. Though honestly, living under any of them would have me on the first boat to the Free Cities, so I voted for Daenerys.

Stannis, as he's the only claimant who'd be even marginally competent as a ruler.

(Also, Davos Seaworth is my favorite character in the entire series.)

More or less this. Robb is a great leader of men but we saw where that gets you absent administrative tact in the person of Robert Baratheon. I don't share the hate for Cat but she's, shall we say, less than an ideal advisor. If Robb had better help I'd probably support Northern independence with Stannis ruling the Southern kingdoms. The Ironborn have an extremely good case for independence, culturally speaking, but said culture is such that an independent Ironborn nation-state would from a realpolitik point of view be undesirable for pretty much every non-Ironborn on the planet within reach of saltwater. Also Balon is a bit of a cock even by their standards.

Renly is a toom tabard and Joffrey is one of the most disgusting people ever.

The Onion Knight is wonderful, although the nickname makes me think of a certain minor character from Utena, which is a little arresting.

Dany is great and admirable in many ways but has some of the same problems as Robb for reasons that become apparent later on.

I should point out that I've read the books so I know how this plays out, but hindsight actually doesn't change much in terms of who I personally support.

Easily Stannis, but then I've read all the books.

Finally got a battle scene last night...pretty well done too.  The Greek Fire bit may have been a bit....much?....over-the-top?  Daddy Lanister is NOT going to be happy when he finds out Joffrey was hiding in his room.

After that last episode, Stannis proved that he was a badass. People first up the latter usually get sliced to bits. Not Stannis! He cut a guy's skull in half.

I think that the best outcome would as of right now would be northern independence with Stannis on the Iron Throne. I don't think that is likely to happen, though.

Can't we chop all of their heads off and install Tywin and Arya as co-rulers?

(I know, I know, that's not how it happens in the book)

Obviously Joffrey is a c[inks]t, but him being king would basically mean Charles Dance is in charge of everything which would be the best possible option.

Screw all of those options, put Tyrion on the throne.

The best outcome is, I think, an older and wiser (preferably through means other than being brainwashed by Baelish, but beggars can't be choosers) Sansa on the Iron Throne, with Stannis as Hand, mainly since I'll defend Sansa as a dynamic and growing character until the day I die, but the set of circumstances required for that to happen are, uh...not especially broad or likely.

Who else calls this programme 'Musical Chairs'? Just curious, like.

Not me - I call it Game of No Clothes personally.

I think one of those options is permanently off the table though.

What, you don't think that Renly's ghost will return to claim the Iron Throne and declare the decapitated zombie head of Ned Stark to be his Hand?

Just watched the 1st episode of this Game of Thrones thing.

Pretty good so far, but that blonde guy (who's sister is hot) is somewhat crazy.

Not as crazy as everybody else around him.  Jamie has actually grown on me a bit.  Sure that thing he did at the end of the first episode is despicable (suffering succotash), he's just playing his role in the game and doing it quite well.  I won't say he is a likeable character, but more likeable than his sister and much more so than his....ahem...."nephew".

No, I mean the blonde guy who forced his sister to marry that warrior guy, not that other blonde guy who f[inks]ed that woman in the tower while being watched by the 10 year old boy.

OH!  Yeah, he's nucking futs.  Arguably the second most hateable character on the show.  (and yes, his sister is quite hot...but quite crazy too)  And to make it worse, in the books she is like 12 or something when Conan rapes her.  Obviously they couldn't do that in the TV show.  Well, I guess they could, but it would have been even more disturbing than it was...and it was pretty freaking disturbing.

Didn't get that impression in the first episode. Maybe later she gets crazier (but don't tell anything, I want to watch it ... Tongue)

Yeah, in the TV show she looks like 18 or 20, not 12.
