Good.

However:
You know there's an option on the maps to get rid of the popular vote colors so if you're too lazy, you don't have to adjust them?

Wow. I never have seen that before. The goal of this was to create the opposite of the 1984 Presidential election, with a Democrat landslide.

President Kennedy remained popular throughout his second term. In 1986, Republicans narrowly lost a majority in the House, with the Democrats only being 18 seats ahead. President Kennedy remained popular throughout his term, with several of his domestic programs being passed.

The Republican race was heated. Senator George Bush, former VP Dole, Pat Robertson, and later, Representative Ron Paul, battled to the convention floor. On the 4th ballot, a darkhorse emerged in former President Claude Kirk, who won on the 6th ballot. To the suprise of the convention, he asked Congressman Jack Kemp to be his running mate.

The Democratic Convention was won by popular VP Bentsen, on the first ballot. He asked Congresswoman Pat Schroeder to be his running mate.

Vice President Lloyd Bentsen/Congresswoman Pat Schroedor-57% of the PV, 447 EV.
Former President Claude Kirk/Congressman Jack Kemp-43% of the PV, 91 EV.

President Bentsens single term was marked by the fall of Communism. In the Eastern bloc, demonstrations led to the collapse of multiple regimes. In the Middle East, the US was forced to intervene in the 1990-1991 Saudi-Iraq war. It led to many US casualties. The economy took a hit, and in 1992, President Bentsens approval ratings were sinking. On July 4th, 1991, he announced he would not seek re-election.

The Democratic primary season began with Senator Jay Rockefeller, Governor Bill Clinton, Governor Mario Cuomo, VP Pat Schroedor, and Governor Jerry Brown. However, a dark horse emerged in Dick Gephardt, who narrowlty won the Iowa Primary. He later won the nomination, and asked Georgia Democrat Newt Gingrich to be his running mate.

Republicans were not as divided. Congressman Kemp was the front runner throughout the race, and won the primaries with minimal opposition in the form of Pat Robertson, and Pat Buchanan. Kemp was nominated, and asked Congressman Alan Keyes, or Maryland to be his running mate.

Congressman Jack Kemp/Congressman Alan Keyes-52% of the PV, 274 EV
Congressman Dick Gephardt/Congressman Newt Gingrich-48% of the PV, 263 EV
Faithless Elector (Bentsen/Schroedor)-0% of the PV, 1 EV

President Kemp took office in the midst of a recession. The economy, however, soon turned around, as a result of the Kemp administrations position. In 1994, Republicans took controll of Congress, and passed much of Kemps agenda, including the Sale/Thurmond Act, which abolished the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, and left them to the states.

President Kemp received a minor challenge from Texas Senator George HW Bush, and Utah Senator Orin Hatch, in the 1996 Republican primaries. At the convention, Keyes and Kemp were renominated on the first ballot.

The Democratic primary season was crowded. Congressman Newt Gingrich, Arkansas Senator Bill Clinton, New York Governor Mario Cuomo, and former VP Pat Schroedor fought for the nomination. After narrowly winning the Wisconsin primary, Governor Cuomo achieved the nomination. He asked the Mayor of Washington DC, Marion Barry to be his running mate. Barry, who was tried (but not convicted) of drug possesion, in 1990, was a controversial pick.

President Jack Kemp/Vice President Alan Keyes-57% of the PV, 316 EV
Governor Mario Cuomo/Mayor Marion Barry-43% of the PV, 222 EV.

Bump----Here is a new one. This is a mini-mini timeline. I am abandoning the "Failure of Tippecanoe" due to a lack of research. This one will go from 2000 up to 2020.

2000

Vice President Al Gore (D-TE)/Senator Joe Lieberman (D-CT)-292 Electoral Votes, 48.3% of the popular vote.
Governor George Bush (R-TX)/Former Secretary of Defense Richard Cheney-246 Electoral Votes, 48.2% of the popular vote.
Activist Ralph Nader (G-CT)/Activist Wynona LaDuke (G-MN)-2.2% of the popular vote.
Commentator Pat Buchanan (RF-VA)/Mrs. Ezola Foster (RF-CA)-1.3% of the popular vote.

Al Gore-43rd President of the United States
In one of the closest Presidential elections, Vice President Gore narrowly defeated Governor Bush to become the 43rd President of the United States. President-elect Gore’s narrow victory was accredited to Pat Buchanan absorbing votes from Governor Bush in Florida, and Activist Ralph Nader proved the Green Party was more than a spoiler.

Cabinet of Al Gore
Secretary of State: Richard Holbrooke
Secretary of the Treasury: Lawrence Summers
Secretary of Defense: Sam Nunn
Attorney General: Janet Reno
Secretary of the Interior: Bob Miller
Secretary of Agriculture: Bob Kerrey
Secretary of Commerce: Bob Graham
Secretary of Labor: Alexis Herman
Secretary of Health and Human Services: Donna Shalala
Secretary of Education: Ann Richards
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development: Andrew Cuomo
Secretary of Transportation: Rodney Slater
Secretary of Energy: Bill Richardson
Secretary of Veterans Affairs: Hershel Gober
Chief of Staff: Ron Klain

President Gore’s first term in office was uneventful until the morning of September 11th, 2001. Over 3,000 Americans would be killed when Al Qaida militants hijacked four planes, and crashed them into the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, and the Bank of America Tower in Las Angeles.

Immediately, US Special Forces began operations in Afghanistan. In address to both chambers of congress, President Gore announced the US invasion of Afghanistan. The invasion was launched on October 1st, and the Taliban regime crumbled within days. Despite quickly occupying Al Qaida strong holds, Bin Laden was already on the run. He was later killed by Special Forces during the battle of Torah Bora.  The US army began a lengthy occupation of Afghanistan.

On the domestic front, President Gore entered the US into the Kyoto Treaty, and began pushing several pieces of financial and environmental regulations. As a result, the Republicans made minor gains in the 2002 midterms. In 2003, President Gore began pushing for universal healthcare, but his program was strongly criticized by Republicans and even some Democrats.

In 2003, the Iraqi nuclear crisis heated up. The CIA began reporting that Saddam Hussein may have been arming Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan, and was also considering selling the nuclear weapons he was allegedly constructing. Despite calls to invade Iraq by some in the administration, President Gore eventually decided against the invasion, and Saddam Hussein opened the nation’s nuclear facilities to international inspectors.

The 2004 Republican primaries soon began, when Senator John McCain (R-AZ) declared he would seek the Presidency once more. Pat Buchanan, Senator Lincoln Chafee (R-RI), Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR), Senator John Ashcroft (R-MO), Governor George Pataki (R-NY), and Alan Keyes would all later jump into the race.

Governor Huckabee won Iowa, forcing Elizabeth Dole, and Alan Keyes to drop out. John McCain would win New Hampshire, and as a result, Chafee and Pataki would end their campaigns. Ashcroft won South Carolina and Florida, and soon became the establishment favorite for the race. After a long drawn out primary, McCain and Huckabee endorsed Ashcroft.

Green-Ashcroft, Yellow-McCain, Blue-Huckabee

Senator Ashcroft announced his selection of George Pataki as his running mate. Gore did not face a primary challenge, and Vice President Lieberman agreed to stay on the ticket. Pat Buchanan, who dropped out early on in the primary race, announced that he would seek the nomination of the Taxpayers Party. He selected Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) as his running mate. The Green Party nominated Ralph Nader for President, and he selected for Congressman Daniel Hamburg for Vice President.

The race was close, and the two third party campaigns both performed well in the polls. On election day, Americans went to the polls, expecting yet another close election-and they got it.

Senator John Ashcroft (R-MO)/Governor George Pataki (R-NY)-273 Electoral Votes, 46.6% of the popular vote.
President Al Gore (D-TE)/Vice President Joe Lieberman (D-CT)-265 Electoral Votes, 45.8% of the popular vote.
Commentator Pat Buchanan (T-VA)/Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX)-5.1% of the popular vote.
Activist Ralph Nader (G-CT)/Former Congressman Dan Hamburg (G-CA)-2.5% of the popular vote.

President Ashcroft took office as 44th President in January, of 2005. In Afghanistan, casualties were rising, and in the Middle East, tensions between the now nuclear armed powers of Iraq and Iran were near the boiling point. Syrian and Israeli tanks stared each other down in the heavily militarized Golan Heights. He put together a cabinet of well known Republican officeholders from across the country.

Secretary of State: Richard Lugar
Secretary of the Treasury: Phil Gramm
Secretary of Defense: Richard Cheney
Attorney General: John Bolton
Secretary of the Interior: Butch Otter
Secretary of Agriculture: Sam Brownback
Secretary of Commerce: Jon Huntsman
Secretary of Labor: John Engler
Secretary of Health and Human Services: Mike Huckabee
Secretary of Education: Phil Handy
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development: Michael Steele
Secretary of Transportation: Bill Graves
Secretary of Energy: Joe Barton
Secretary of Veterans Affairs: Arlen Specter
Chief of Staff: David Ayres

In February of 2005, President Ashcroft announced a troop surge in Afghanistan. Within a few months, casualty rates skyrocketed, and mass anti war protests broke out. Despite this, Ashcroft was unyielding. At the UN, Ashcroft called for a “global intervention in both Iraq and Iran before all hell breaks loose”. The Iranian and Iraqi delegations both stormed out of the hall. President Ashcroft’s national security policy grew unpopular with Democrats and Libertarians.

August of 2005 saw Hurricane Katrina ravage New Orleans, in one of the worst natural disasters ever recorded. President Ashcroft’s response was criticized heavily in the following months, and his approval ratings plummeted.

After the CIA broke up a plot that involved two Kuwaiti men attempting to blow up the New York subway system, the neoconservative wing of the American right wing began to call for strict anti terrorism measures. When the PATRIOT Act was passed in early 2006, several members of Congress went so far to call for Ashcroft’s impeachment.

In the 2006 midterms, Democrats won a landslide, taking back both Houses of Congress. Soon after, Democrats began declaring their campaigns for President. Former Vice President Lieberman was the front runner for the nomination, with Senator Hillary Clinton and Senator Evan Bayh narrowly trailing. Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT), Senator Joe Biden (D-DE), Governor Gray Davis (D-CA), and Congressman Barack Obama also declared campaigns for the Democratic nomination.

Evan Bayh won a narrow upset in Iowa over Hillary Clinton. Governor Davis, Senator Dodd, and Senator Biden ended their campaigns. A heated battle for New Hampshire between Bayh and Clinton allowed for Congressman Obama to squeak a narrow victory. Lieberman lost steam after two fourth place finishes, and ended his campaign.

Obama repeated his victories in South Carolina, and Nevada. Bayh defeated Clinton in Florida, and after a long, drawn out battle, Bayh defeated Obama and won the nomination. Bayh’s shortlist for the Vice Presidency included Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Kathleen Sebelius, and Mark Warner. To the surprise of many, he asked former Washington Governor Gary Locke to be his running mate.

Yellow=Bayh, Red=Obama, Blue=Clinton
Ashcroft did not receive any major primary opposition, and was re nominated with ease. Vice President Pataki stayed on the ticket. Ralph Nader, whom Democrats blamed for the defeat of President Gore, did not seek the Presidency, and the Green Party nominated David Cobb, of Texas, and Jesse Johnson of West Virginia. Likewise, both Ron Paul and Pat Buchanan declined to seek the Presidency. The Taxpayers Party nominated Chuck Baldwin and the Libertarians nominated Mary Ruwart.

Ashcroft’s approval rating hovered around the mid fifties, and he lead Bayh by six percentage points in the polls. The economic situation fast deteriorated, however, when Lehman Brothers and AIG went under. The Wall Street meltdown pushed the US into recession, and unemployment was at 6% by October 2008.

Senator Evan Bayh (D-IL)/Governor Gary Locke-391 Electoral Votes, 52.5% of the popular vote.[/b]
President John Ashcroft (R-MO)/Vice President George Pataki-147 Electoral Votes, 46.4% of the popular vote.
Other (Green, Taxpayer, Libertarian)-1.1%
