BULGARIA:

Rosen Plevneliev

Rosen Asenov Plevneliev (Bulgarian: Росен Асенов Плевнелиев; born 14 May 1964) has been President of Bulgaria since January 2012. He was Minister of Regional Development and Public Works from July 2009 to September 2011 as part of the cabinet of Boyko Borisov.[1] In October 2011, Plevneliev was elected as President in a second round of voting; he was inaugurated on 18 January 2012.[2]

Boyko Borisov

Boyko Metodiev Borisov (Bulgarian: Бойко Методиев Борисов, IPA: [ˈbɔjko mɛˈtɔdiɛf boˈrisof]; born 13 June 1959) is a Bulgarian politician who has been Prime Minister of Bulgaria since July 2009. Previously he was Mayor of Sofia from 8 November 2005 until his election as Prime Minister.

After his party, GERB, won the July 2009 parliamentary election, Borisov became Bulgaria's 50th Prime Minister[1][2] on 27 July 2009.

I have no clue about Plevneliev, but Borisov seems to be one of the better PMs from Bulgaria so far in terms of moving the country forward and weeding out corruption.

Voted "Approve" for both (unless gmantis tells me something different ... Tongue)

Plevneliev - FF by default, I can't see anything wrong.

Borisov -

Plevneliev is, as far as I know, an untalented party hack/village idiot. Borisov is, I think, some fraud populist moron.

Boyko Borisov is a willfully ignorant, anti-intellectual bully, with close connections to the Bulgarian Mafia, who likes to put on a fake tough guy in public, but is extremely sycophantic in private to those stronger than him. He is dishonest even for a Bulgarian politician (and this is saying something) and much of his image is built on the sympathy of gullible journalists, not to mention judicious financing and since he came to power, threats. His government consists of mediocre lackeys and libertarian fanatics, who've managed to make sure that the economic crisis would affect Bulgarian as badly as possible. His policies are chaotic and ruled by whims. One of his main "achievments" was an attempt to destroy the Bulgarian Academy of Science, Bulgaria's oldest and most successful scientific institution. Under his government, the media has been controlled by the government more strongly than ever since the fall of communism and elections have been openly manipulated. He boasts of fighting crime and building highways, while crime rates increase all the times and all but the few roads he "happens" to visit decay. His foreign policy follows slavishly the interests of the US, regardless of what the actual interests of Bulgaria may be or what the people want.  His successes in fighting corruption is rather dubious, excluding high profile arrests which don't result in convictions. Nor has the practice of people close to the government getting rich on public finances ended. Most notoriously (though you wouldn't hear it from most of the Bulgarian media), his wife holds the bank where most of the government income.

Regarding Plevneliev, he is a successful businessman (though how exactly he became so rich is rather murky), but he was appointed minister due to being close to Borisov and especially the shadowy business circle around Borisov's wife. He was successful and popular as minister of Regional Development and Public Works due to the infrastructure work accomplished during his term (though the media adoration and exaggerations certainly helped. It's often speculated that Borisov "promoted" him to the powerless position of president largely to avoid Plevneliev overshadowing him (which Borisov hates, similar to how he hates being criticized). Both during the election campaign and after that he didn't show any qualities that would make him a good president, except being ridiculously subservient to Borisov (who probably considers this a very important quality).

So, yes I do think that you shouldn't have voted approve Smiley

You've nailed it. Though I would add wanna-be dictator to Borisov's description.

Just noticed Elio Di Rupo has a negative Atlas approval rating. Kinda tough to take that seriously.

Poll is now closed.

Plevneliev has a 31-69 approval rating and Borisov has a 12-88 rating (the lowest so far).

Now Cyprus.
