For his role in the killing of protesters during the revolution. His former interior minister received life sentence for this as well.

Subsequently, Mubarak and his sons were found not guilty of corruption charges.

That translates to, what, ten to fifteen years at most?  The man is already over 80.

That's the harshest punishment he could get - death penalty would just mean shortening his suffering, considering how old and ill he is. Not that I would have supported it anyways, of course.

As well as rumoured to suffer from terminal cancer. He'll probably spend his entire life term in intensive care.

The important thing, of course, is that the former dictator was tried for his crimes by his own people.

Of course, a lot of people on the streets are dissapointed he didn't receive the death penalty. I disagree, but I understand their feelings.

Well, it was a forgone conclusion. Not that I feel sorry for him, he deserves prison.

According to CNN, Mubarak is now in coma.
In other words, they have executed him. I expect his death to be announced next week.
