Is there any site that tracks ballot access for 3rd party candidates ?

For example for the Green, Libertarian, Constitution, Reform, Justice, Socialist etc. parties ?

http://www.ballot-access.org isn't very helpful, because it's like a blog and I don't read thousands of pages to find out the current ballot access for 3rd parties.

What I want is something like:

UPDATE: MONDAY 28-05-2012

Greens: 25 states (all states listed)

Libertarians: 20 states (all states listed)

etc. etc.

Where can you find that ?

Actually, the site you say isn't helpful is.

The monthly newsletter has exactly what you want.  The May issue should be online in a few days, and the link for the April issue is below:

Thx. Didn't see that.

What ? Minnesota has a requirement of 105.000 signatures for a party to be on the ballot ?

WTF ?

That's to get the status of the big two and not have to file a petition each time.  It's only 2000 in Minnesota to get on the ballot, but you have to file the petition each time.

There's also some bonus you get if you exceed 5% in a statewide election.  Ballot access is relatively easy in Minnesota.

Some states have really ridiculous ballot access laws.

In PA for example, Obama/Romney need only 2000 signatures to be on the ballot - but 3rd party candidates need about 21.000 ---

The Greens have about 10.000 now.

I see the Greens are on the ballot in my home state of Texas.

It reminds me of a joke I heard from a comedian:

"Words never heard in Texas:  'Honey, did you remember to write that check to Greenpeace?'"

OTOH, it seems to me that traditionally it is the Western states where minor parties get their biggest percentages.  I hope the Greens get on those ballots (and every ballot).  Ditto for the Libertarian and Constitution Parties.

When's the deadline for each state? Pundits were saying that Johnson was supposed to make it in all 50 states.

Ballot Access News keeps track of those details for all the minor parties in their monthly newsletter, tho if you aren't a subscriber, you have to wait a month for the issue to go up on the website.  Oklahoma looks to be sticking point, as they have the strictest ballot access laws of any State.  Johnson needs to have submitted 43,890 signatures there by today.

It's entirely possible he'll make the ballot in 49 states, but Oklahoma's ballot access laws make it virtually impossible for minor parties to make the ballot.

Johnson's on the ballot in Oklahoma now! Many thanks to the "zombified corpse of Americans Elect". The LP is still suing so he's Gary Johnson (Libertarian) and not Gary Johnson (Americans Elect), but he's on.

If you are looking for all third party news, I suggest Independent Political Report. They get a lot of reports from direct sources, way before the media does.

Or just sign up for Johnson's emails: the direct sources themselves.

Johnson is providing news on the Goode, Stein, and Barr campaigns?  Very generous of him.

I follow those too, except not the Barr campaign, because Mr. Barr is not (AFAIK) running this year.

Took me a minute...at first I thought you meant Roseanne Barr.

Roseanne Barr I don't think is actually serious about running for President and is doing it more as a publicity stunt (like Colbert), while Bob Barr isn't running.

I did.  She has as good a chance of winning as the other 3rd party candidates do.
