First racial controversy: Black Dutch players are the target of monkey noises while the team was training in Krakow. UEFA claims it wasn't racially motivated; it was a "protest" over Krakow not being picked as a host city...which makes absolutely no sense to me.

This.

(But that would be a strange form of "protest" indeed.)

Just to clarify, I think it's strange that Krakow wasn't selected but what doesn't make sense is the idea of making monkey sounds to protest that decision.

Poland-Greece seems likely to be a 0-0, 1-0 or 0-1.

Russia-Czech Republic, I could easily see a 2-0 or even a 3-0. I'll be generous and predict a 2-1.

And in the good old traditions of these tournaments, the host is already receiving help from the referee...

That red card was really something.

Clearly the ref is biased, but I can't feel much sympathy for Greece because they are a horrible footballing side.

This ref apparently gave out sixteen red cards in nineteen La Liga games. Also, this could be some payback for 2004: the ref is a Spaniard and we know how Greece got out of their group in 2004...

I live pretty close to the stadium. It's unbearable, my friends. And the night will be even worse.

And to think people thought this would be one of the dullest games.

Excellent way to open the tournament.

Indeed, hard to believe Poland and Greece made it that entertaining.
