All the people who just don't care would end up polluting the system with their ballots.

This.  If you don't care enough to vote, we don't want them to.  You have the right to vote, and America has fought and died for that right.  But with that right comes the right to choose not to do so.

The previous two posters are right --but I think the original question remains the same --WHAT WOULD the electoral map look like? Probably more Democratic IMO b/c there are more registered democrats than republicans.

It would say people must vote but you don't have to vote for the office of your chosing. People would still undervote and the election outcomes can still be very similar to now.  Just more ballots.

I disagree. If people have to show up at the voting station --they're not going to just show up and note vote. They're going to vote!

I think if voting was mandatory, the parties themselves would be a lot different.

As satisfying as it would be to me to force people into political participation, it's even more satisfying to have a country based on the opinions of those who actually care. The trend towards the final step--takeover of the system by a band of elites--is nigh upon us.

The F*** You Party steals enough votes from both parties to continually throw elections to the House thus making elections mod of a congressional affair than a Democratic one.
