What could Dewey have done to win the election in 1948? What paths to victory did he have available that he failed to exploit?

Less platitudes, more concrete proposals rather than just bending over and letting Truman define him. Point out that if Truman couldn't unite his own party, what with 2 splinter parties and his own nomination being challenged, how could he unite the country? Meet with the Congressional leaders to hammer out a joint agenda rather than letting Truman define him as a Taftite tool.

By bothering to campaign. 1948 reminds me quite a bit of the tortoise and the hare.
