Yeah, wow. Looks like times may be changing even in France's uber-servile judicial system.

There is no servile system in France.
Just servile people.
And also partisan people Wink
And some honest people in the middle, who are quite never promoted Smiley

The system itself is servile, because prosecutors are appointed/removed by political bodies, for political reasons, and without any check. Of course it works thanks to servile people, but that's because the system allows them to be appointed in first place.

See Italy's example, a county which has all the problems we know, but where magistrates are selected through strict meritocracy and display a truly amazing level of honesty, independence from the political power and dedication to their job (ever wondered why Berlusconi had to pass laws to protect himself ? In France, he wouldn't have needed).

During that time, Sarkozy is in Québec, visiting Paul Desmarais, one of the more powerful people in Québec and the puppetmaster of the PM Charest.

Oooh, Sarkozy and Desmarais still love each other? Desmarais - the guy after whom the social sciences building at OttawaU is named after - was at the Fouquet's and apparently took the bill on May 6, 2007.

It would be cool if Sarko got canned like Chirac did. Of course, all French presidents since 1969 would, if they were normal people like you and me, be in jail or have served time.

Yes, Europe 1 said than he will be in holiday at Desmarais' house in Canada for around 10 days. About Desmarais, he also have a building at UMontréal (for physiology and biomedical engineering).

And Mitterand wouldn't, he would have died before or during the trial.
