Obama, Democrats raise $60 million in May

By KEN THOMAS, Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party have raised a combined $60 million in May for his re-election effort.

The totals helped the president exceed his fundraising haul in April, when his campaign and his party raised $43.6 million. That was slightly more than his presumed challenger in the November election, Mitt Romney, and the Republican Party, which raised about $40 million during the month.

Romney has not yet released fundraising totals for May.

Obama and the Democratic National Committee and other state-focused funds have brought in about $450 million during the 2012 election.

The president's campaign staff said on Twitter that more than 572,000 people donated in May, bringing their total to 2.2 million donors for his re-election.

The May numbers have to be reported until June 20:

Romney clocks in at $77 million. $12 million from small donors.

Probably so, but I doubt Romney will be out raised like McCain was in 2008. I also expect Romney to opt out of matching funds if Obama does once again.

I agree but let's keep this real, Romney isn't raising $12 million from small donors again soon.

Ron Paul still has more than 3 Mio. in the bank (mainly because he still raises about 2 Mio. a month, but doesn't run ads anymore and basically suspended his campaign):
