Even though i'm a moderate leftist, if we were to pull out of Iraq now i'd be sorely dissapointed. We went itn, right or worng, and now we have to stay. My mum totally disagrees with me, and so does about 70% of the population now-they want us out straight after the election-but as long as the US is there, we are. We should probably be taking a more active role, actually, but whatever.
Also, Australia and Indonesia's relationship has never been strnger. Not despite the war on terror, but BECAUSE of it. Australia's help in catching the Bali bombers and the extremely stronger ties in all areas of government then 4 or 5 years ago is amazing. 5 years ago, if you told John Howard that Australian Federal Police would be based in Jakarta, he would've laughed his head of-but now, they're there.
Also, the tsunami is bringing us even closer together. Indonesia is now the most important regional partner we have, overtaking New Zealnad. And I couldn't be happier. Having the world's largest islamic nation alongside us can only be good news, in more ways then just the war on terror.
John Howard *swallow* got it right. *small amount of reflux*
