The celebrity endorsements contest. Not that that's going to surprise anyone at all of course. But I'm just having a giggle reading through a list of endorsements for Obama and a list of endorsements for Romney.

Among Obama's celebrity endorsers are:

Bill Gates
George Clooney
Matt Damon
Robert De Niro
Al Pacino
Meryl Streep
Robert Downey Jr.
Steven Spielberg
Mick Jagger
Madonna
Jay-Z
Beyoncé
Lady GaGa
Oprah Winfrey
Muhammad Ali

The most well-known celebrities on Romney's list:

Jon Voight
Kid Rock
Ted Nugent
Donald Trump
Gene Simmons
Donny Osmond

So yeah. Tongue

When was the last time the Republicans ever won the celebrity endorsements contest?  1956?  Earlier?

Last I heard, Gene Simmons has not formally endorsed anyone yet.

Probably.

Most celebrities are in tune with most young people's attitudes and beliefs, which is mainly liberal. I think the only exception to this though are sports stars, they usually go either way.

I noticed sports stars are very conservative with all the gay bashing that goes around sports. I'm sure that the average athlete is apthatic towards politics or they are conservative. Sport athletes are the anti artists.

Maybe he just like Rudy Giuliani, but I predict Adam Sandler is pro-Romney all the way.

It's not really that, a lot of them are more religious than your average actor/actress/singer. Also a lot of them also come from more rural backgrounds on average than entertainers. I wouldn't say gay bashing has a lot to do with it, especially nowadays where all the major pro sports leagues now have sexual orientation discrimination protections in their CBA's. But I am not going to deny that it doesn't exist.

Reagan had a ton of celebrity supporters and actors, including himself.

Of course he was also head of the actor's union at one point.

Pearl Bailey campaigned a lot for Gerald Ford in 1976, and even recorded a few campaign commercials for him (a female black entertainer endorsing a Republican wasn't as bizarre back then). And I think a lot of the 'Old Hollywood' actors from the '40s and '50s supported Reagan in part because they knew him.

Endorsements from people in the country music scene are a little more interesting because they're not monolithically Democratic like the film industry. You have the populist Republicans (Hank Williams, Pat Boone) and the Blue Dog-ish Democrats (Tim McGraw, Merle Haggard).

Now I am really upset.

Lady GaGa is backing Obama.

Now Romney loses the vote of every American who wears purple wigs and twelve inch stilettos.

I don't think that's a demographic that neither Obama or Romney wants.
