When the Republicans take back the Senate in November and Romney wins, Manchin will switch parties

But you have to get by King first, if he caucuses with the Dems, no way for McConnell to majority leader.

That wont be an issue.  We're going to take ND, NE, MT, MO, WI and at least 2/4 of NM, VA, FL, OH

Seriously, if the Democratic Party ever purges itself of all the relics that stand with the party in name only, we might get somewhere in this country. At least we'd know our real head count. Having 60 Democratic Senators doesn't mean anything when 5-10 are going to vote like Republicans.

Meh, we only need 41 to sh**t on your parade.

www.Electionprojection.com has the GOP taking over #3 seats and that isn't a Democratic site.

So funny, WV and VA are moving in completely different directions politically, economically and socially. Look which one is moving towards the Repubs and which one is moving towards the Dems.

I think it's in bad taste. It's the Democratic National Convention; not the Barack Obama National Convention. If you can't bring yourself to attend your own party's quadrennial coming-together, maybe you need to find another party.

That said, a party that wants to have a sustainable majority in the long-term needs to be a big tent and be welcoming to the people who are with them 51% of the time as much as they are to the ones who are with them 100% of the time. It's even more critical that Democrats do this. While hardcore Tea Party conservatives are 20% of the electorate at best, the percentage who would constitute a left-wing equivalent would be even smaller.

West Virginia may hate Obama, but it's still a very Democratic state on every level but presidential. For all his flaws, Manchin is not going anywhere.

If Romney-R wins, Manchin(D-WV) might be the Zell Miller of the 2010s.
During the Bush v Gore race. Bush carried GA by a double digit margin and Miller remained neutral.
During the Bush v Kerry race. Bush increased his margin of victory in GA and and Miller went of the deep end.
Manchin could endorse Romney-R in his 2016 re-election campaign, give keynote address at RNC convention and go on Hardball and challenge Chris Matthews to a duel.

So basically, if Romney wins MSNBC features live duels to the death? That's not a bad idea; it'd certainly boost ratings, especially among the WWE crowd...

Even better, Manchin would take Matthews down!

Are they going to the Republican convention? Or do they not want to be seen with the Mormon either?

My estimate, made months ago, was that the GOP will net at least +3 seats in the Senate, which would bring them to 50.  At that point, Manchin may indeed switch parties.  (At the high end, if everything breaks their way, the Pubs could win as many as 7 seats and guarantee a Manchin switch.  That would put them at 55 seats -- still too low to get much accomplished given the stupid filibuster rules.)
