Did you really use Canseco here?

And for the record, everyone, I'm a socialist, not some sort of milquetoast moderate.

In an election like that last one with Pryor as my running mate against Goldwater/Canseco, I'd win Utah, not lose it.

I'd lose Oklahoma before Utah or Idaho.

------------------------------------------------------

As for this election, it would be a race between Secretary of Agriculture Henry W. Turkisblau and Governor Barry Goldwater III. One who stands to renew the New Deal, the other who stands for Laissez-faire economics.

In a move to get more Southern votes and more liberal turnout, Turkisblau selects Congressman Morris Yelnoc of Georgia, a self-proclaimed "socialist" (but really just 1960's Northern Democrat) with an equally fiery passion.

In contrast, Goldwater picks the very quiet, calculating, but liberal Attorney General Bradley Oakvale of Oregon...which alienates the socially conservative base entirely, but eases skeptical centrists who would otherwise be very wary of him.

Secretary of Agriculture Henry W. Turkisblau (D-NM)/ Congressman Morris Yelnoc (I-GA) 310 EV, 50.2% PV
Governor Barry M. Goldwater III (R-WA)/Attorney General Bradley Oakvale (I-OR) 228 EV,48.6% PV

Supreme Court Justice O. Kvale of Maryland becomes the first Supreme Court Justice in a century to head a major presidential ticket, as well as the first Irish Catholic to do so since the nomination of John F. Kennedy in 1960. A proud 'New Democrat', Kvale decides to balance out the ticket by nominating California Governor M. Arm Dem as his running-mate, bringing labor and other traditionally populist Democratic constituencies on board with his budget balancing agenda.

On the Republican side, former Senator Goal D. Water of Washington runs on an aggressive, militaristic platform of confrontation with the Russians, the North Koreans, the Iranians, and, well, pretty much everyone else. His campaign seems to be going well until a gaffe from his running-mate, body-building bible-thumper turned Missouri Governor Gauss "Alpha Male" Law fatally weakens his campaign, allowing Kvale an easy victory.

Thanks to a revived organized labor movement guaranteeing his victory in nearly all the caucus states and all the primary states with a labor presence to speak of, Illinois socialist entryist candidate Thomas N. Effry seizes the Democratic nomination against all logic. The Democratic establishment refuses to support him despite a few half-hearted endorsements, and after dozens of refusals, Effry picks the rather nondescript Californian ex-Senator Mort Dennison thanks to his connections with longshoremen.

With the economy in mild recession and the Iraq and Afghan wars still in recent memory, the hawkish, Washington-born Florida senator George Auhtwo was an unlikely Republican nominee, but his fiscal conservatism and big donor backing helped him overcome his more culturally conservative and isolationist rivals, picking the equally hawkish but much more reactionary Missouri governor Alfred Melman as his running mate. Despite Effry's open denunciation of the Obama administration's policies, his radical views plus general Democratic fatigue, Auhtwo's appeal to younger and nonwhite voters (Melman was successfully muzzled), and low turnout among the "ascendant coalition" added up to a comfortable victory for Auhtwo.

Senator George Auhtwo of Florida/Governor Alfred Melman of Missouri: 316 electoral votes
Congressman Thomas Effry of Illinois/Senator Mort Dennison of California: 222 electoral votes

2024

World War III has been raging for 9 months. The Democrats and Republicans put aside their differences to elect a unity ticket composed of MormonDem and Goldwater, to replace the out going president. The anti-war Socialist Unity ticket of TNF and Snowstalker is the highest vote-getting opposition ticket, netting 48% of the vote in the District of Colombia, but failing to win any electoral votes. The American public gives the unity ticket an overwhelming mandate to prosecute the war to its hellish end.

The Republican Party implodes after the Democrats gobble away at them in Congress over the 2008-2014 electoral period. An "Era of Good Feelings" results, with the only real existing party being the Democrats, holding supermajorities in both houses of Congress. A progressive coup occurs in 2016, with the Democrats nominating solid liberal MormDem of California; he selects eclectic Georgia independent Senator Yelnoc as his running mate to demonstrate "national unity".

Meanwhile, a hastily-organized convention of the newly-declared Socialist Labor Party in Chicago nominates labor activists Snowstalker and TNF for President on a platform of building a socialist state in America and granting workers control of the means of production. Outraged conservatives, forced to pick between "Obama Socialism and Pure Socialism", petition to have unpledged slates nominated in several states; these mostly succeed in the Deep South and Plains states. With the Democratic ticket's victory assured in November, turnout is low across the board. Notably, TNF and Snowstalker achieve nearly 20% of the vote, mostly as a protest ticket. In addition, the unpledged tickets succeed in 10 states; these electors wind up voting for scattered conservatives in December.

Gov. MormDem (D-CA)/Sen. Yelnoc (I-GA): 467 EVs, 73.2% PV
Activist TNF (SL-IL)/Activist Snowstalker (SL-PA): 0 EVs, 19.3% PV
Unpledged Electors: 71 EVs, 5.6% PV

@IBL: I'd win Utah and Idaho in that scenario in a sort of "Jimmy Carter takes back the South" sort of thing.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway, the narrative and results are pretty much the exact same as above, except the Socialist ticket snag DC by 50.1% and Tennessee and Georgia join in the NOTA campaign given tha IBL is farther left than I am.

(I'm going to continue w/ phwezer's)

President MormDem is blessed with a very productive congress, passing complete universal healthcare and a peaceful and robust global economy. Things come to a halt in the 2018 elections when the movement created by the TNF/Snowstalker ticket in 2016 is materialized in a party called the Socialist Alternative, or SA which is much more organized the hastily created Socialist Labor party. The disarray in the conservative movement still does not coalesce under a single banner and many are elected on the "Opposition" ticket. The socialists stonewall many initiatives, often stating that they aren't going far enough or indirectly benefit capitalists.

The 2020 elections feature intra-party conflict with the democrats fearing a loss of power from a good socialist showing. This is made worse when VP Yelnoc who helped MormDem move to the left in 2016 begins a primary challenge to MormDem. The activists doom President MormDem's chances in the primary to his well established challenger. SA endorses Yelnoc after he picks Sen. Snowstalker for VP. Rather than fall to his radical challengers, MormDem begins an independent campaign rather than fall to the radical lean of his own party. Conservatives vote in waves for MormDem rather than see a real socialist get into office, and other farther left liberals are won over by Pres. MormDem's VP pick in the "Rooseveltian" California Governor phwezer.

Governor Goldwater (R-WA)/Senator Türkisblau (D-NM) 271
Mayor Phwezer (D-CA)/Senator L.D. Smith (D-VA)
267

The western unity ticket easily turns all the lean red states save Oregon blue despite a Mormon being in the 2 slot on the Democratic ticket while the more socially conservative Turkisblau eases fears over Goldwater losing the south - though Kentucky and West Virginia are closer than expected.

Meanwhile Smith manages to keep VA in the Dem column but cannot do enough as VP to pull the bluer NC over - the rare libertarian-leaning southern state. Goldwater alienates the Midwest and struggles more than expected in Ohio particularly, but NH is the decisive state where he plays strong and wins.

I'm going to replace myself with Illiuminati Blood Drinker, given that I bumped this and before my last response, it was him.

Anyway Senator Henry W. Tuerkisblau (D-NM) decides to run for president, only to find himself running against Senator Barry M. Goldwater III (R-WA). In hopes of exciting the liberal base, Tuerkisblau picks notable progressive governor Ian B. "Illuminati Blood Drinker" Douglas (D-CA). Goldwater, hoping to win back the moderate crowd and "drive Tuerkisblau nuts" selects Congressman Alfred D. Smilo

Senator Henry W. Tuerkisblau (D-NM)/Governor Ian B. Douglas (D-CA): 287 EV
Senator Barry M. Goldwater, III (R-WA)/Congressman Alfred D. Smilo (R-PA): 251 EV

Governor MormDem (D-VA)/Senator Turkisblau (D-NM) 344 EV
Governor SMilo (R-PA)/Congressman Goldwater (R-WA) 194 EV

I'm not sure if having SMilo at the top of the ticket would keep the GOP base together when up against a socially moderate-conservate democratic ticket, considering he a conservative who "acts like a liberal" according to his account page.

1948

With tension between the US and the Soviet Union after WW2, the Republicans nominate staunch anti-Communist Sen. Goldwater of WA as their candidate. To unify the party, the dovish Gov. S. Milo of PA is chosen as VP.  The populist Majority Whip, L.D. Smith of Virginia, is chosen for the Democratic ticket, though he is opposed by the conservative Byrd organization in his own state.  With Sen. N. Canada Land of New York as VP, the Democrats pledge peace in the international realm and an expanded and more efficient social welfare state. While the Democrats are seen as too soft on Communism, the Republicans are feared to be too eager to roll back the New Deal. Smith and Land win in a close election.

Republicans decide to go with a new route. Shaw Milo and John Shua, both of the libertarian wing of the party, offer a new vision for the party. They win in an upset over the leaders, and run up the score in the polls. Milo, however, falls behind in the debates, and the race is once again a toss-up. Vice President Charles Land was always vulnerable, due to his overly embracing support of Canada, causing his opponents to attack him as unpatriotic. Both Milo and Shua themselves disregarded the attacks, but nevertheless he fell victim to the attacks. In the last weeks, however, combined with strong debate performances, came the attacks on Milo's plan for social security. This significantly weakened him with olds. And the choice of Lance Smith the surprise Senator of Utah and devout mormon for on the Democratic ticket threw NEvada to the Democrats. However, Republicans made up for it with a wide and surprising win in Pennsylvania and Iowa. Milo ended up winning, but not with a mandate that he so desired.

Governor Shaw P. Milo (R-PA)/Senator John Shua (R-VA) - 48.5%, 271 EV's

Vice President Christopher "Canada" Land (D-IL)/Senator Landon D. Smith (D-UT) - 48.3%, 267 EV's

1908

The Democrats nominate populist Lewis D. Smith of Virginia and pair him with a Gold Democrat, Samuel Maxwell of Oklahoma. The ticket holds together the Democrats' base in the South and among Northeast urban immigrants, and builds strength in the Appalachians and the Mountain West. Felix Goldwater of Washington is chosen by the Republicans along with the much more progressive Nels Canada Land of Michigan, and the GOP wins the election with their support in the North and on the West Coast.

1964

Sen. Barry Goldwater (R-CA) / Congressman Shawn Alfred (R-VA) - 466
Sen. L. D. Smith (D-CA) (replacing Communist activist T. N. Franklin (D-KY)) / House Majority Leader Max Wells (D-OK) - 72
In 1964, avowed Communist T. N. Franklin seized the Democratic nomination, after which he was assassinated. Senator L. D. Smith found himself the only man willing to take the helm of the Democratic Party, nominating House Majority Leader Max Wells for Vice President. However, the stigma from Franklin couldn't be shaken, resulting in a landslide for Goldwater.

20XX US Presidential Runoff Election

EDIT (adding context):

The US adopts a top-two runoff system. This is the December runoff (ignore EV counts). CA Gov. Goldwater and Rep. shua were nominated by the Liberal, Republican, and Populist parties. Mayor TNF and Rep. Peebs were nominated by the Socialist-Left Alliance, a merger of the American Socialist and Progressive-Left parties. The Democrats ran their own candidate in the general election while the Greens (center-left ITTL) and Libertarians also ran candidates. Goldwater and TNF made the runoff with 43% and 19%, respectively. The runoff vote margin is 69-31.
