The 2012 primary season ends in less than an hour, when polls close in the last primary state....Utah.

At one point, Romney was ahead here by like 70 or 80 points.  But I don't think there have been any recent polls, so anything could happen.  Anyone want to try to predict the winner?

Well, I'll go out on a limb and say Romney.

15% reporting, and CNN has called it for Romney.  Returns so far:

http://edition.cnn.com/election/2012/primaries/state/ut

Romney 94%
Paul 4%
Santorum 1%
Gingrich 1%

Romney is consistently getting about 5% points more so far in each county than in 2008, with even bigger gains in rural areas. I'd say he's a lock for >90%.

Politico is reporting Karger won Tooele County with 93.7% of the vote to Romney's 4.4%...probably a mistake....

I loved when Karger beat Paul in Guam.  I'd love to see him not finish last here as well.  The guy's a really nice guy.

About 90% counted now:

93% Romney
  5% Paul
  2% Santorum
  1% Gingrich
  0% Karger

What % of the Republican primary vote in Utah is Mormon?

The 2008 Exit Poll from the UT GOP primary had it:

90% Mormons
  3% Protestants
  3% Catholics
  2% Other Christians
  2% No Religion

Ron Paul actually gained votes between 2008 and 2012:

In 2008, he got about 9.000 votes in UT, now he got about 11.000 ...

Despite receiving 59K fewer votes statewide due to the lower turnout, Romney improved in some counties:

Beaver +64
Duchesne +754
Juab +190
Piute +159
Summit +171
(Though small numbers remember these are small rural counties)

Maybe this bodes well for Romney's prospects of winning Summit Co in November

Yep, there's a growing number of Utah Mormons who are basically taking the doctrines of liberty within the Book of Mormon to in ideological/political extreme. I personally know a family that has done such; they're very staunch Paulites, to the point that they don't even like Gary Johnson, Rand Paul, or any other Libertarian politician. They only like Ron Paul.
