Depends on your definition. Washington likely has the most "radical" atheists, as in those who want nothing to do with religion, although Vermont probably has a more secular average.

It's interesting that Mass. has rather few "very religious" but has a quite high % of church-goers.

Vermont is the most secular, all-round, non-religious state.

Washington may have a good deal of atheists on the west coast, but that's only half the state, go further east and I'm sure there will be a good deal of religious GOP'ers.

Not necessarily. Large parts of the interior West are pretty unchurched except for Mormons, and many Northeastern states still have relatively high rates of adherence. Remember, there is the so-called 'size of government' axis as well as the social axis. New Hampshire conservatives are or fancy themselves libertarian.

I wouldn't be surprised if church attendance was higher among Democrats than Republicans in certain pockets of the Southwest.

Immigrants tend to be religious, thus increasing the religiousness of states like California and Washington. Vermont doesn't really have that factor.

But yeah, depending on how you want to look at it, it will probably end up being WA or VT.
