Elizabeth Warren seems to be getting most of the buzz.

It seems to me that you would pick this person based on a few different things. Either you need someone to fire up the crowd (see Christie pick) or you pick somebody in a key statewide race that you want to give an opportunity to raise their profile (see Obama, Warner.)

I think Tammy Baldwin would be an interesting choice.

I sure hope it is Warren!
I believe it is more likely to be a younger rising star- maybe a Booker type or perhaps rewarding O'Malley for his efforts

Won't be Booker after he swatted down the Bain attacks and that's the centerpiece of Obama's campaign.

Hopefully Schweitzer. He'd give a good speech.

It'd be nice if it were Wasserman-Schultz.

If I were a Democrat, I'd aim for someone younger, currently running for office, who could become a new face of the party after Obama's out. That being said, I think Martin Heinrich might be a good choice - his race is actually pretty competitive, so it'd help with with that, and he could be a rising star in the party.

Elizabeth Warren would be fantastic.

O'Malley or Cuomo could be interesting choices, but I doubt the DNC would give an edge to one or the other of the 2016 candidates like that.

Zell Miller should recant everything he's said over the past ~10 years and give a resonating speech a la 1992 and 2004.

I really do think Elizabeth Warren is the best choice.

Edit: She's being considered:

Someone who is the rising star to replace the Obamas.  Such as Bill Clinton in 1988 and Barack Obama in 2004.  It is very possible that whoever wins that whoever gives the keynote in either Convention will be making their first speech of the 2016 campaign.

I would like to see someone nobody is really thinking of, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY).  I would prefer her over Andrew Cuomo.

Heidi Heitkamp or Tammy Baldwin would be pretty good choices but Elizabeth Warren probably makes the most sense.  I think Clinton gave the nominating speech in 88.  I think it was different than the keynote.  But Obama being the keynote wasn't what launched him.  And last cycle Schweitzer's speech elevated him more than Mark Warner's fairly dull keynote.  So who cares?

Anthony Weiner.

This would show the Democrats can forgive and forget and give a second chance to those who have fallen by the wayside, and will remind voters that even though he has done a really bad job, that Obama should be given a second chance.

I think it's going to be a politician from the Western side of the nation, but I don't have any idea who would fit the bill.

Warren, Kaine or Baldwin seem to be the most likely choices.

I'm partial to either Warren or Wasserman-Schultz.

The keynote speaker last time was Mark Warner. I'm not sure if there's any real significance in the keynote speech itself other than it being designated as "keynote." The significance really lies in whether someone is chosen who has a lot of potential to be an up and coming star, and fulfills that potential through his or her speech.

Warren, Kaine or Baldwin seem to be the most likely choices.

Why would the Obama people pick Baldwin or Kaine?  Remember, the convention is stage-managed by the campaign team of the presumptive presidential nominee.  They're going to want to pick a keynoter who'll lavish praise on the party's presidential nominee and/or hurl grenades at the opposing party's presidential nominee.  Baldwin and Kaine are running statewide races in swing states.  They're not going to want to hug Obama too tightly.  Warren, OTOH, is running in a heavily Democratic state, so hugging Obama isn't a problem.

Good points, as usual, from our mod.

Warren is in a tight race in MASSACHUSETTS... you think the DNC wants her to be their featured speaker to a nationwide audience when she isn't leading significantly in the nation's bluest state???
