He's done all of nothing relating to the issue at all.

No, he certainly isn't the most pro-gun President.

Obama however surely realises that gun control is one debate that has shifted in the GOP's favour. There was a Pew poll a while ago showing independents opposing gun control at 55%, in 1994 or so, it was 35%. Hence why the President won't pursue gun politics to the extent of his predecessors.

Deep down, I'm quite sure he supports gun control and a new assault weapons ban, though as usual, the politics comes first.

No. He's just not a particularly anti-gun president. That should be obvious to anyone who is paying attention.

And this is why I don't like the opebo/Lief/Seatown crowd at times. Just because he hasn't done anything doesn't make him pro-gun. It's not like he's legalized buying a tank.

He signed a bill allowing handguns in national parks, no? I think it was attached as a rider to the CARD Act.

I support an AWB as well......gun toting old prick that I am.  But in the last 4 years the AWB and other gun control issues haven't been at the top of anyone's radar and he's not going to open the door to begin the discussion.

I think he will do exactly the same (nothing) if he's re-elected.

I think the answer to mitty's question though, is, techinically, no.

He's apathetic so far as I can tell.

He also knows that public opinion on gun control has been steadily swinging against it, so he doesn't want to give the Republicans a single unpopular issue to pound him on (that endears him to no one except those who would be voting for him anyway).

That's just being reasonable. National parks, with their bears and wolves and the like, are one of the places guns can make a crucial life-or-death difference.

Not sure what you mean, this crowd doesn't usually concern itself with gun control.

It was a rider on the CARD Act.  Without a line-item veto, he either had to reject the whole bill or sign it with the rider.  So while it might not have been "nothing," it's pretty darn close.

"obama the most pro gun president in modern history?"

I guess he is, if you credit him with the highest number of gun sales in U.S. history.  And that's even excluding his Operation Fast and Furious.

Btw, the only guns I own are a lady's .38 that I bought for Mrs. Rain, at her request, when we were dating and she was living alone and a cheap .22 long-barrel pistol I inherited from a grandfather.

1. i find it pathetic that the obama apologists says crap like 'im sure deep down obama really believes in gun control....'   that just shows he is a political coward...and it is of little relief to the families who have lost loved ones to gun violence.

what if i made the argument that 'deep down mitt romney really believes in gay marriage...'

2.  obama said recently that he wants to keep assault weapons out of the hands of 'criminals'.   nice choice of words...what about keeping them out of the hands of private citizens?

So they don't go on a murderous rampage.

Which they could just as easily do with functionally identical non-assault weapons, if that's what they wanted. The gun control crowd is probably the most hilarious aspect of modern American liberalism.

True dat....but the AWB makes common sense, in my view.

The AWB was 5% useful massacre prevention & 95% useless symbolism. Despite the rhetoric of some folks, its lapse really hasn't changed anything.

The fact remains, we'd still rather take the risk of getting slaughtered by madmen with guns than have Obama Take-a-Stand against guns and be thrown from office.  Your chance of getting slaughtered is still only a few percent over a lifetime, while Romney will certainly remove your health care, and we're all 100% likely to get sick and die.
