of course I am aware of that.  the point being that when the war machine is in full gear, nearly anything can happen, and there's no reason to believe it won't happen again.

so I never did do this, but I've started to make a few contacts within the Society of Friends and hopefully will attend a meeting this Sunday.  my interests and beliefs have gradually gravitated towards a Christian pacifism, though aren't quite there yet, and SoF is the most obvious place to start.  wish me luck.

do you know how many Americans are diagnosed with major depressive disorder / generalized anxiety disorder nowadays?  you think all of them would be able to get out of compulsory military service?
