I can see the Obama campaign saying "we built this city" with government grants, roads, bridges, etc. and playing up a Union/Populist theme.

I can also see the Romney campaign using "we built this city" as a rallying call for business owners.

Or Romney could just run an add that says "You DIDN'T build this city."

Obviously Obama and the Democrats have no right to use any ad song or any ad anything  including the words WE BUILT.

After all, Obama and his mealy mouthed minions and his trash talking toadys don't believe that Americans are capable of building ANYTHING.

No one got successful on heir own Winfield. He wasn't saying that Government is responsible for all business people's success. He was saying that someone helped them get where they are at some point in their lives, be it a teacher or anything.

And yet when Romney says something that is taken out of context, this forum jumps on it with 749 pages of feigned indignation, knowing full well that what Romney really meant was not what they all pretend he meant, condemning Romney as the most dangerous individual in the history of the world.

Yes, there is so much objectivity on this forum.

I doubt that Mitt Romney enjoys or understands rock and roll (in any incarnation) and therefore can assume that he disagrees with the premise of a city having been built on it. Then again, Obama is equally unlikely to use it because it would kill his indie cred. Starship is for squares.

1979 was a revolutionary year, was it not? Yes you got events in Afghanistan and Iran, as well as Thatcher's election, true. But far more importantly, Mickey Thomas was brought in to act as a replacement for both Marty Balin and Grace Slick (ended up only being for Balin as Slick returned in 1981) in what was then Jefferson Starship.

I am much more a fan of Jefferson Starship then either its predecessor or successor band, simply because of my fondness for Miracles; however, Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now is certainly at number two amongst songs of the Jefferson Airplane/(Starship) trinity of bands. That said Starship is a poster child for a band dying slowly and using a song from them may portend a similar sign for a campaign and even beyond that it most certainly wouldn't be "We Built This City". Ironically the song was immensly popular when it came out, before people came to the common conclusion that it sucked wondered "Did we actually like this at one point"? A fate I am inclined to wish on a few contemporary pop hits. Tongue

If I were to suggest a song from one of the three bands for a campaign, it would probably be "Count on Me".

Personally, I'm hoping Romney's campaign uses Plastic Fantastic Lover at some point.

Dancing Abe Lincoln in the music video supports the Republican candidate.
