2000: Scott wins by 4 points over Maxwell

Former Senator Scott (D-CT)/Governor Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) - 51.3%, 317 EV's
Governor Maxwell (R-OK)/Congressman John Kasich (R-OH) - 46.9%, 221 EV's

Former Connecticut Senator and centrist Scott managed to come out of a blood bath between Vice President Al Gore and Senator Bill Bradley. Meanwhile, the Republican field managed to produce a candidate who many felt was outside the mainstream, Conservative Oklahoma Governor Maxwell. Scott and Maxwell even had some agreements on certain fiscal issues, but Scott led in most of the polls along the way. Florida was surprisingly close, but Scott pulled off easily.

2016 GOP Primary: Liberty Prevails!

The 2016 Presidential primary proved to be a bruising one. Governor Maxwell of Oklahoma, known for his small-government and libertarian principles, was a favorite among many in the Tea Party, despite a progressive stance on social issues. Senator Tmthforu94 of neighboring Kansas, elected in 2010 to replace Brownback, dazzled many when he was the keynote speaker at the 2012 RNC Convention, and his charisma helped him surge to the top. However, he has been criticized for siding with the moderate faction in the Kansas GOP, and despite high favorables from Democrats and Independents, struggling gaining traction with GOP voters.

After a long and bruising primary, Governor Maxwell eventually prevails. In an effort to unify the party, he goes on to select Senator Tmthforu94 as his running mate, and the two narrowly win in the General Election.

Libertarians vs. Republicans: The Battle for the 2008 Nomination

Senator Supersonic (R-TN) - 64.6%, 1539 Delegates
Governor Maxwell (R-OK) - 30.8%, 738 Delegates
Scattered Others - 4.6%, 31 Delegates

Senator Supersonic was everything the party could dream for: A conservative Senator, with a high approval rating, and some positions that would bring centrists into the fold. The only issue: a libertarian governor from Oklahoma, gaining supporters across both extremes: Liberal Republicans, upset with Supersonics pro-life and pro-gun control positions, and Future Tea Partiers, upset with the Senators willingness to compromise. Maxwell ran on his record of balanced budgets and low taxes in Oklahoma, and managed to come within 20 points of a victory in Iowa and winning New Hampshire (49 M - 44 S)... Something none of the pundits were expecting. After Supersonic barraged Maxwell in ads during Super Tuesday, however, the Governor slowed down to a loss in Ohio, causing him to withdraw from the race.

Supersonic would go on to narrowly defeat incumbent President Antonio California.

The 2016 Presidential Election

Bballrox4717 (D-NY)Sad 50.1 %, 300 electoral votes
Governor Maxwell (R-OK)Sad 48.7 %, 238 electoral votes

Governor Maxwell of Oklahoma shocked the country when the Libertarian defeated his conservative rivals for the Republican nomination. His victory originally threatened to split the party, and Bballrox4717 sailed to a lead of over 10 points in the polls. Governor Maxwell took advantage of the division created by Obama and Bush's presidencies and attempted to sell his Libertarian ideology as a pragmatic way to solve problems across party lines - he had already seen bipartisan support from liberals and conservatives alike over an amendment to shelve controversial portions of the PATRIOT ACT. Maxwell's campaign rose to within striking distance and eventually took the lead when he defeated Bballrox4717 in the first debate.

Bballrox4717 throughout the campaign rose Governor Maxwell's disapproval among social conservatives by successfully connecting his religious beliefs to his economic policies to Governor Maxwell's secular Libertarianism. While Bballrox4717 never expected social conservatives to vote for him, his ads were designed to attempt to keep them home on Election Day. He also attempted to bring neoconservatives onto his campaign, focusing himself as a pragmatic foreign policy hawk in contrast to Maxwell's dovish-ness. The strategy proved to be disastrous in the west, in which Governor Maxwell took all of the battlegrounds states, Oregon, and almost won Washington as well. Nevertheless, Bballrox4717 won the election by regaining his lead in the Midwest, winning among seniors in Florida, and by keeping Governor Maxwell on defense in more traditionally socially conservative states such as Missouri, North Carolina and Georgia. The success of the Maxwell campaign would provide a groundwork for future Libertarian presidential candidates, and the 2016 election would later be seen as a realigning election.

1840
The Panic of 1837 would doom Cathcon's presidency early on. Refusing to intervene following the economic collapse, in his re-election, the nation would be ripe for change. Senator TNF, a Kentucky Whig and Henry Clay protege, seemed the perfect candidate. In the past, the Democrats had been able to successfully appeal to the poor, immigrants, and all the rest against the elitist and fiscally wasteful Whigs. However, with TNF's own humble roots and record of support for universal white male suffrage, the radical young Senator was able to steal vast swathes of the vote in Appalachia and the South that might have ordinarily gone Democratic. Cathcon, for his part, had surrogates working hard to gain back the support of frontiersmen in the West along with his own Michigan. As well, immigrants in states such as New York and Pennsylvania would aid in his re-election battle. However, the Panic had done its damage and come March 4th, 1841, TNF would be swearing in as the first Whig President.

Senator TNF (W-KY)/Senator John Tyler (W-VA) 172 electoral votes, 51% of the popular vote
President Cathcon (D-MI)/Vice President Silas Wright, Jr. (D-NY) 122 electoral votes, 48% of the popular vote

Senator Jack Enderman R-FL/Governor Goldwater R-WA; 269 EVS
Representative Jacob Tiver D-FL/Senator Miles D-LA; 269 EVS

After one heckuva battle, neither of us win, so Congress (controlled by Reps) elect Enderman, but after its Enderman/Miles, I decide that Tiver should be Sec of State and Goldwater should be Sec of Treasury... And thus, everyone's happy! Smiley Cheesy Smiley

Seriously I have no idea who would win if its Enderman versus Tiver... So I decided this! Smiley

I think Enderman probably won the primary due to a divided party and his being from a swing state. But his enthusiasm and 'peppiness' unnerves moderates presents a pretty clear win for me... Tongue

P: 367 - 53%
G: 171 - 43%
O: 0 - 4%

This is tricky - I think there are states that we'd both win purely by virtue of the letters next our names. I think the battle grounds will be the South, primarily, NC, GA, SC and FL, the South West, CO and NV in particular as well as NH.

Goldwater's social liberalism triggers a small but damaging conservative third-party candidate. This swings borderline Southern states to me, and lowers the margins across the South, but CO and NV flip back into the R column. The closest states would be GA, CO and NH. His base in the NW gives him a boost in WA, OR and CA - but not enough to flip them.
