You don't think this logic makes sense ? The whole point of the Senate is to pass legislation. Why should I care whether my Senator is a nice guy or not, as long as he votes for the bills I like and against those I don't like ?

Al was pro-union and endorsed by the HRC over Schumer.

That was a massively controversial decision that led to at least one board member resigning, IIRC. however I was volunteering at an AIDS charity right after the republican takeover of Congress and D'Amato was instrumental in preserving funding when there were otherwise no patrons in the GOP.
