How fair and transparent are elections these days in Venezuela ?

Are they rigged, are votes bought or voters intimidated ? Chavez supporters bussed to the polling places etc. ?

Who knows more ?

Polls close at 6pm local time, so results can be expected tomorrow morning here.

Or in CA, where you are right now, late in the evening today.

Democracy.

(Who knows ? Could help Chavez or Capriles. Chavez already won re-election in 2006 with big turnout).

Chavez has now taken a 700-vote lead in Miranda and increased his lead in Lara to about 1%.

That leaves Tachira and Merida as the only Capriles-states.

Interesting that Zulia is not backing Capriles.

Zulia is shocking, Chavez lost that state in 2000 and 2006, and he wins it fairly easily this year. What's up there?

What Phil said and maybe the opposition Governor there isn't that popular (but I don't know) or the oil boom there is helping Chavez because he's chanelled a lot of this money into rural areas to fight poverty and boost education there.
