Nice maps, Alcon.

It appears that Mass. is the only state to have all religious groups go Democratic.

Truly shocking results there...

Though I didn't realize Jews were heavily Democratic in Michigan and Nevada.

You can simplify it to - only Massachusetts and DC had both Protestants and Catholics vote Kerry.

What's with the grey states? Are their no Catholics in Alabama and Utah? Did they run them out of those states?

That means that there was not a significant enough amount to present an accurate sample.

In North Dakota, though, there were actually no Jewish respondents whatsoever.

Another reason why I am never moving to Utah.

This is not because there are no Catholics; it is just because there are so many Protestants that it does not matter.

You'll notice states like Washington have samples for thinks that only consisted 5% of the respondents while some states lack respondents for 8% groups. This is because battlegrounds and semi-battlegrounds like Washington were polled more closely than other states.

In the red states, Kerry did better among Catholics. In the blue states, he did better among Protestants...

Doesn't mean there's a large Jewish population.

2% of respondents were Jewish - however, that was enough because Michigan is a battleground, and thus was heavily exit-polled.

Well, they all vote, and are usually found in major urban areas. Detroit area has a pretty large Jewish population.

Of course, some states have small Jewish populations and 2 Jewish Senators, so you're right to say it doesn't necessarily mean anything.

what the hell? I heard that Catholics were mostly Republican here and the Protestant vote was actually Democratic.

Of course Protestant is way too broad of a category, it should be seperated into mainline and evangelical, and I'm sure Kerry won mainline Protestants in Minnesota.

The senator isn't really a good indicator of that - Feingold in WI is Jewish too (among others nationwide). However, there are some moderately Jewish areas in Southeast Michigan, such as West Bloomfield, where I was born. Most have moved out of Detroit by now - it's 85% black or Hispanic.

Interesting thread worth a bump.

Not suprising but I actually have known two Jews in ND (a kid in my 7th grade homeroom and one of my Spanish teachers)

I'd be interested in seeing the maps for white Protestants and white Catholics, to see how much the original maps were influenced by race.

Unfortunately, they only reported "White Conservative Protestant", a waste of a question, in my view.

Interesting, since the 2006 Senate and Governors races polled white Protestants and white Catholics.

I'm suprised Bush won Catholics in NY.  Though part of that might be due to the 9/11 swing that may have impacted Catholics more than other groups.
