The libertarians should have theirs in Denver or Seattle so that they can smoke blunts on the convention floor, while deriding Big Government.

The Libertarians would likely have their convention at a Holiday Inn or the like, and those places usually have no smoking policies in their public areas.
They had their last convention at a luxury resort outside of Las Vegas, and with Johnson being their best nominee yet, I can see them getting a decent venue for 2016. The Constitution Party and Greens will never be so lucky.

Kansas City might bid for the RNC in 2016:

http://www.kmbc.com/news/kansas-city/KC-group-eyes-possible-bid-for-2016-GOP-National-Convention/-/11664182/19127442/-/12ge2hr/-/index.html

Updated list of cities known to be considering a bid for one or both conventions in 2016:

Charlotte (for the RNC only, since the DNC isn't going to use it twice in a row)
Cleveland
Columbus
Dallas
Indianapolis
Kansas City
Las Vegas
Nashville
Newark
Philadelphia
Phoenix
Salt Lake City
St. Louis

I think that both parties should look at Anchorage and Honolulu as possible convention locations down the road.

Time Zone differences has been an obstacle for those cities, mainly.

No love for Detroit?

I just looked and the Democrats have never held there convention in Detroit. Detroit should be at the top of the list for the Democrats. Detroit has a bad reputation but would do a great job with the convention. It would be a nice boost for the city to host a convention.

Detroit? Of course that assumes that Rick Snyder is still around.
