I know, it's really early. But let's speculate. In 2008 and 2012, the selection seemed to be based more on increasing the party's chance of success in that state/region than just choosing a random city. So I think they'll continue that trend, that conventions should be cities in states where they believe their parties could improve in. Here are some ideas:

2016 DNC: Phoenix, Indianapolis, Miami
2016 RNC: Columbus, Detroit

2020 DNC: Atlanta, St. Louis
2020 RNC: Pittsburgh, Milwaukee

2024 DNC: Houston, San Antonio
2024 RNC: Chicago, Philadelphia

Why Phoenix for the Dems?  Wouldn't the existence of the Arizona immigration law make such a choice controversial?

Why should Indianapolis host a GOP convention? Indiana is a solidly Republican state except in unusual cases like 2008, when Obama's ground game and months long state campaign combined with the political environment at the time gave him a narrow victory. The state reverted back to norm in 2010 and Obama isn't even bothering to contest it this time around. Of all the results in the 2008 presidential election, Indiana was clearly a glaring outlier. I don't see the point of hosting it there.

Demographic changes in Arizona (aka Latino voters) suggest that the state is about one Presidential cycle away from becoming truly competitive.

The decision for 2016 will have to be made as early as next year though, no?  As long as Jan Brewer is governor and the immigration law is in place, I would assume that any decision to hold the convention there would be controversial.

Unless the demographics reverse themselves, which could happen.

Some of these answere (Covington, OH and Manchester, NH) are just plain crazy.  I'd prefer an actual major city.  Maybe this:

2016
Republicans- Detroit or Chicago
Democrats- Dallas or Houston

2020
Republicans- Boston or Seattle
Democrats- New Orleans or Orlando

2024
Republicans: Cleveland or Cincinnati
Democrats: Philadelphia or San Francisco
2016 DNC: Columbus, OH
2016 RNC: Milwaukee, WI

2020 DNC: Indianapolis, IN
2020 DNC: Philadelphia, PA

2024 DNC: Seattle, WA
2024 RNC: Chicago, IL
You put DNC twice for 2020.

I am 100% sure that the 2016 Libertarian Party convention will be in Orlando. I have no proof, just a very strong gut feeling. In four years, I hope this post is brought back up.

Which of the cities mentioned here even have convention centers suitable for a national party convention?  I mean, you might think, say, Columbus, OH would be a good place for a convention for political reasons, but do they have a convention center suitable for fitting 5000 people into one room, that'll look good on TV?  (They may well, I genuinely don't know the answer in that particular case.)

Just a heads up for those picking Milwaukee for the 2016 RNC that Milwaukee's arena is really old. The Bradley Center opened 1988. It is the oldest arena in the NBA behind Madison Square Garden and it shows. There are attempts by Senator Kohl, the Bucks owner, to try and build a new arena, but I am guessing it wouldn't be done by 2016.

2020 DNC: Houston, TX
2020 RNC: Chicago, IL

2024 DNC: Phoenix, AZ

The Democrats should make inroads with the SouthEast and West. The Republicans will probably continue putting them in swing states.

I would like to see especially the Democrats choose a smaller city.  I think Charlotte was a really good choice.

My top 5 choices for Democrats' 2016 convention:
1. New Orleans, Louisiana
2. Columbus, Ohio
3. Louisville, Kentucky
4. Indianapolis, Indiana
5. Orlando, Florida

A goodood choice for the Republicans would be Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Quite honestly Im surprised that neither party has chosen New Orleans.
