...garnering the most presidential votes ever. Mitt Romney, on the other hand, still has a way to go before he beats John Kerry (let alone John McCain).

Obama 2008: 69,456,897

Obama 2012: 62,088,847 (still growing)

Bush 2004: 62,040,610

McCain 2008: 59,934,814

Kerry 2004: 59,028,444

Romney 2012: 58,783,137 (still growing)

He'll certainly do the first though, and probably the latter as well.

Yeah, he'll definitely beat Kerry. Not sure about McCain though.

How come they're all from the same three elections?

Because they're the elections with the highest population. And they're all after the 2000 fiasco, which highlighted the importance of voting.

Because of the joke turnouts of the last few decades before - last time the US had comparable turnouts (higher for actually eligible, ie non Black voters) the population was a lot less.
