Count on the Dems to parade into this thread and troll his speech though.

The speech, imo, sucked. Sorry but it did. I praised Ryan after his speech and it's not like I'm an Obama lover or anything. This was, at best, a standard Romney speech. That's not a good thing.

Yes, it was another Mitt speech. If you think that is a good thing, you probably liked this speech as well.

The Romney campaign felt the need to put out a statement about the Eastwood disaster.

CNN flashed some sort of instant poll:

How did Romney's speech make you feel about his candidacy?*

More Supportive 33%
Less Supportive 39%
No difference 27%

*I'm paraphrasing.

The Clint speech was cringe inducing and sad really.  I have a feeling that this will be what is remembered and latched on to by media.

Romney was Romney- a vanilla speech.

I have a feeling Clint Eastwood will be THE STORY tomorrow.

Definitely. He stole the spotlight on Twitter and apparently all news stories are plucked from Twitter now, so I'm sure he'll dominate discussion.

Eastwood was great.

Problem is that you were expecting a political speech.

He always speaks that way.

Problem is the RNC was expecting a political speech and didn't get it.  I suspect the only reason he was put on was because the Super Bowl ad created the false impression Clint was pro-Obama, so they can spin this as "Here's an ex-Obama supporter who supports Mitt.  You can do the same!"

I mean, if Democrats chant O-Ba-Ma, and Republicans chant U-S-A, am I alone in thinking that reflects better on one group than the other...
Of course not, tho I suspect we differ as to which group it reflects better on.  To me if that happens, it means that the Democrats have a nominee they are willing to cheer, while the Republicans have someone they aren't very enthusiastic about.

Eastwood dissed student loans, which comes off as elitist. His speech was less than impressive. His movies are good, he should stick to acting.

Eastwood shouldn't squander the few (?) years he has left with endorsing mediocre Republican candidates through doing awkward live performances. Instead he should concentrate on making more movies in the mold of Letters from Iwo Jima or Gran Torino. Everything else would be a waste of ressources and talent.

Is it possible that Eastwood just trolled the Republican convention by demonstrating that they would cheer for criticisms against the President that contradict the criticisms of other speakers? (e.g. McCain)
