The second subsection is great, but it's the first subsection that I find fault with.

I'm not sure whether we need to force students to take such courses. I think the focus of a bill dealing with reading should lie on reading comprehension in general. Indeed, there is a substantial number of students who leave school without very good reading skills. If you are able to read very quickly you have an advantage, but it seems more important to me to make sure that people who graduate can read properly at all.

We do need to increase our literacy and reading comprehension standards in our schools. While I like he idea I think comprehension is more important .

Comprehension is definitely more important and needs to be worked on, but speed reading also helps improve reading skills.  I'll amend it for you:

How would you feel about just including this into the language department curriculum, rather than requiring a separate course for it? I agree - reading skills is something that is deteriorating in Atlasia when it should be improving, as it is in other nations.

WOO! Yes, I'd take this class Cheesy Must needed for 6 AP tests to prep for and ridiculously boring text books that go with them! The problem is if this is a requirement for an already existing English class that some are thinking of, what about AP Lang and Lit where there isn't time to spend on speed reading? Still, it can happen at a much earlier stage. Just thinking out loud.

I would prefer an amendment which puts a stronger focus on reading comprehension in the curricula of Mideastern schools. If this bill should pass, we might have to get rid of the "speed-reading" focus.

Voting is now closed.  The AYEs are 0, and the NAYs are 3, with 2 not voting.  The NAYs have it, and the amendment is not adopted.

There's a typo - it should be "curriculum", not "cirriculum".
