Sorry if this has already been discussed, but who else caught Granholm's speech at the DNC?  She whips the crowd into a frenzy, but I started laughing because at one point it seemed like this was a rock concert and she was "rocking out."  Polarized reaction to this speech has ranged from "Jennifer Granholm 2016!" (though as a Canadian we know she can't) to "Was she drunk or just batsh*t crazy?"

The two are not mutually exclusive options.

I thought it was pretty awesome. She's a nice contrast to that stiff, boring and autocratic corporatist we now have as Governor.

The content of the speech was pretty brilliant. It's a narrative that is great for the part of the country that has actually had a massive rebound under the Obama administration but the way it was delivered diminished that.

Like a much more attractive and more cohesive version of the infamous "Dean Scream."

Classic line from Granholm's speech:  "In Romney's world, the cars get the elevator and the workers get the shaft!"

Can we please amend the Constitution already?

I loved it. I think she came off as deranged to anyone who wasn't a hardcore Democrat though.

Pretty silly. But I guess she succeeded in getting attention for herself.

Despite the content, I felt embarassed for her. She seemed into it, but came off as crazy.

I will say this, had Sarah Palin given a speech in the same manner that Granholm did, the left would be calling her crazy.

Nothing like the woman who helped push the American auto industry to bankruptcy in the first place to claim that President Obama saved it (which he didn't, since GM still went through bankruptcy and restructuring).  I didn't see the speech, but I could tell that it was really creepy.  I'm from Michigan and Granholm was an awful, awful governor.  Her convention speech sounded almost like a new, retooled version of the Dean Scream.

It was a great speech, but certainly more for the Democratic base. But I believe that conventions certainly need to excite the base - such speeches can accomplish that.

The fact that she personally did not come off well didn't matter all that much.  She's safe in her seat and won't be running for higher office.  Her wild-speaking style doesn't negatively redound against Obama, and only moderately detracts from the content.

Anyway, as many have said, the speech was meant for the base, and for a particular few states: Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, maybe Iowa and even Missouri a little bit.  In those states I think the white-working class swing voters would be, on average, a little bit forgiving of lack of smoothness and rough speaking styles - after all they are a very unsophisticated bunch themselves.

She did seem drunk but it got everyone's attention and that's the point. The substance would go completely unnoticed if it had been given in a more typical delivery.

If one's sanity/sobriety becomes debatable after listening to them speak for 10 minutes, then it's fair to say they gave a bad speech, regardless of the content.
