Joe Walsh is such a shambolic candidate for office that I wonder if he isn't doing other Illinois Rs a favor.

Between his dodging child-support payments and spewing out gaffes, he's certain to lose. But is it possible that he's monopolizing media attention on Republican incumbents and helps people like Dold and Biggert by drawing all the sting of criticism?

I am not sure if it works quite like that, but I definately think that a certain amount of crazies makes the non-crazies look somewhat better then they are. Atleast in a stituation when you are the party out of power and those in power are unpopular. I think that may have been at work in New Hampshire and played a role in driving Ayotte to such a high margin of victory.
