Horrible news. I don't know what this film does, but that doesn't justify this.

Wow, this must have just happened but I saw Obama and Romney already released statements. Now maybe I'm misunderstanding his statement but did Obama really say he "understood" why the attacks happened? Roll Eyes

Either way, this is really disgusting and a dead Ambassador...well...this could get very ugly.

Precisely. Understanding something doesn't mean you think it's justified.

Ugggg, toddlers, monkeys and Nestle Quick don't get stirred up as easily as certain Fundies do.  The movie is sooo bad the SciFi Channel would reject it for sh**tty effects.  Nobody would have ever seen the horrible, bigoted movie if these pawns hadn't been ignited by their Imans.  And they don't even have to draw extra horrible images of Mo like they did last time....I'm sure that was hard for them.

I hope we beef up security at all of our embassies that are in places susceptible to this kind of thing, Og knows the coming days are going to be full of angry halfwits yelling sh**t outside of embassies....and clearly the local authorities are often incapable to stop them.....or worse, culpable in it.

Does this constitute the international security crisis which will as is normally the case favor the incumbent, or will Obama's 'Muslim-ness' and not-as-hawkish-as-the-GOP turn it to a Romney plus electorally?  My guess is, alas, the latter.

Just a final thought, editing... what are we doing with an 'ambassador' in Libya?  I wasn't aware they had a legitimate or functioning government - the proper ruler, who provided excellent security, was killed by a usurping mob.  To put an ambassador into this mayhem is crazy.

One of the other people killed in this was very well known in the EVE Online community.

RIP, all of them.

Some movies are so bad they are good...this one goes WAY past that.  He supposedly spent $5mil on it...but I'm not seeing it.

Does it never occur to these mobs that they're only proving the bigots right, at least in the eyes of many?

The question doesn't really make sense - in that they don't think that way.  Their value system is precisely the opposite of that of 'the bigots' as you call them.

Eh, I was afraid something like this might happen. Look, it was inevitable from the very beginning that the overthrow of nominally secular, socialist regimes, however ideologically hollowed-out and morall decrepit, would take an Islamist tinge. However, contrary to my original fears, the so-called 'Arab Spring' was not an Islamist revolution, and nothing that has happened since makes it so, including this.

Clearly, the US will have to take a harder line in Libya and Egypt with regard to the security of US personnel and the maintenance of order. Since Governor Romney is already seeking to exploit this, the President must also be unusually aware of his domestic audience versus his foreign one. What Americans want to hear is a strong statement. I think this permanently increases the alert level out there for Islamist extremism, as well. Beyond this, it is difficult to say how far things will go at this point, let's hope it goes no further than it has already gone.

YES! Positive thinking.  Because I believe we can re-institute new strong-men surprisingly easily in these societies, and co-opt them as before.  Of course I believe this to be the plan all along - to replace those archaic slightly independent minded strong men like Saddam, Quaddafi, and al-Assad with slavishly devoted neo-liberal dictators.

Hmm, what was the last time someone succesfully assassinated a US Ambassador? Seems like these Benghazi salafists are entering a rather select club.

So why did he (supposedly) say he "understands?" Someone please fill me in on whether or not he actually said it. I'm only getting bits and pieces of the story as I'm traveling.

From what I've read Romney was referring to a press statement issued by a besieged Cairo Embassy to calm the mob outside condemning the movie in question for inciting hatred. Obama hasn't said he understood the Benghazi assassins.

Yeah, the 1970s were a bad decade to be a US ambassador.

You're a freaking Gaddafi apologist? He was a tyrant and a monsterously evil man who murdered thousands of his own people. He slaughtered non-violent protestors; which is why those "usurpers" went violent.

I hate the dictator apologism on the fringe left.

You're correct; the Arab Spring isn't at at an Islamist one; this is not like the Iranian revolution, no matter how much groups on the left and right want it to be some so they can condemn it.

These thugs are NOT representative of the whole population, and I'm pretty sure that the legitimate Libyan government will take steps to remove them.

Haha, more proof Romney is losing. What a dickface.

Obama should come out with a statement saying that in America we have something called freedom of speech. If Muslims would like to make anti-Christian movies and put it up on Youtube, they are free to do so.

I believe that some already do.

Freedom of speech does not give you the right to infer that a holy man to over a billion people was a paedophile without evidence.
