Eh, I was afraid something like this might happen. Look, it was inevitable from the very beginning that the overthrow of nominally secular, socialist regimes, however ideologically hollowed-out and morall decrepit, would take an Islamist tinge. However, contrary to my original fears, the so-called 'Arab Spring' was not an Islamist revolution, and nothing that has happened since makes it so, including this.

Clearly, the US will have to take a harder line in Libya and Egypt with regard to the security of US personnel and the maintenance of order. Since Governor Romney is already seeking to exploit this, the President must also be unusually aware of his domestic audience versus his foreign one. What Americans want to hear is a strong statement. I think this permanently increases the alert level out there for Islamist extremism, as well. Beyond this, it is difficult to say how far things will go at this point, let's hope it goes no further than it has already gone.
