I really think it's time to just face the fact that since we've implemented the position of Secretary of Internal Affairs, after trying to give it the good college try time and time and time and time again, it just hasn't flourished in any way. The current SoIA hasn't done anything since taking office at all, and the GM rarely seems to coordinate with the position as it should.

I just don't see what we gain from continuing to keep this position. Basically all of it's territory is covered by the GM and SoEA, and I feel like it's time to abolish the position and use the manpower we spend on the position for other things. When we passed this (I even proudly supported it in the Senate at the time) we talked about how, if it didn't work, we could come back and get rid of it later, no fuss no muss. After three years we're at that point.

Marokai, does this end the power of the SoEA to write stories?

Not at all, that power was established in the Game Moderator Reform Act. (Which, I suppose, we should amend to get rid of the SoIA portion if we're going to abolish the position.)

I haven't seen any activity from any SoIA for the five months I've been here. I think abolishing the position is a good idea.

There's one clause of the 2009 Cabinet Restructuring Act that I think still has a bit of promise though. I like the idea of having it stipulated, in writing, that the senate is to recieve updates on Atlasia's economic situation. It's quite possible that a similar clause already exists in some other legislation. I'll propose an amendment anyway, just in case.

As it stands, shua is very good at communicating with the senate. This clause would be more of a safeguard in case a less-involved GM ever came along.

An Amendment:

I have no inherent problem with this (but I'm not accepting it as friendly just yet), but with the creation of committees, and the debate over the contempt of congress act, would it be better to leave getting information from the GM to the committees rather than a scheduled State of the Union-esque speech?

Finding a Mr. Right is always a problem with everything, though. We shouldn't maintain a position that hasn't been particularly useful in roughly three years just out of the hope of finding someone for it at some point in the far-flung future.

Ugh, Purple State. Curse him for writing the damn thing in the Constitution and not informing me. No, I hadn't noticed it. What a preposterous thing to do.

Making this an Amendment would be worthless, the Smileys (henceforth my name for anyone who seems to oppose things because the reasons for it aren't warm and fuzzy) would come out in full force to doing anything about the SoIA except kicking the can down the road. We may as well move on, but at least put me on record in stating that I think continuing to keep the position is naive and a waste of all of our time.

Also, Yankee, relax. Tongue

Very well then, I'll just write an amendment that will fail.

I propose an amendment to this legislation:

For what it's worth I really implore people to support this. I understand everyone wants a handholdy solution to this problem but we created a position three years ago that has yet to be utilized well at all, and though people understandably have concerns about the increased workload on the GM.. again, we've never had a situation so far where that wasn't already the case. This position simply hasn't proved its worth after far more than enough time. It sucks but it's just undeniable.

Keep in mind, this itself doesn't actually abolish the position, it merely gives the Senate the power to do so through statute. (So basically please vote aye. Tongue)

Aye.
