Lets say President Obama is re-elected in November, his approvals average 56% from now til 2016, and unemployment falls below 7%.
How would a Democratic Primary play out between the following candidates.
Fmr. Gov. Brian Schweitzer of Montana
Fmr. Gov. Deval Patrick of Massachussetts
Fmr. Gov. Martin O'Malley of Maryland
Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York
Gov. Adam Edelen of Kentucky
Sen. Martin Heinrich of New Mexico
Sen. Amy Klobucher of Minnesota

Who's Adam Edelen?

Probably a Cuomo win.

Cuomo would lead the early polls, and because his job as Governor of NY gives him virtually limitless fundraising potential, he'd certainly be a serious contender.

With any of these scenarios that pits one woman vs. a field of men, though, I think one has to consider that the one female candidate would get a significant amount of media attention simply for having a second X chromosome.  Among many female Democratic voters, there's a residual sense of unfinished business from 2008 over electing the first female president.  So, in this scenario, Klobuchar gets a boost just from that.  But I'm not sure how much of a boost, nor if she'd be a good enough candidate to capitalize on it.

But either way, if the Dems nominate a man for president in 2016, they will most likely nominate a woman for veep.  So if Klobuchar ran a decent campaign, but still lost the nomination, she'd set herself up nicely for VP.

Cuomo would be the front-runner, but I'd wager someone would come form behind to beat him out.  Barring a few exemptions, Democratic primaries seem to have a history of that.

I'll say Klobucher beats Cuomo in a couple early primary states to gain momentum and wins out on Super Tuesday.

Cuomo probably can't win Iowa, but he can win New Hampshire.
Warner can win South Carolina and Iowa.
Hillary can probably win NH and South Carolina.
