Based on the last few polls Kaine has been gaining in the Commonwealth.  I have to wonder if all the Republican gaffes of late have caused memories of Allen's own infamous macaca incident to surface.  Or are there other reasons for the surge?

I think it's more related to the general Democratic surge in Virginia - I haven't heard anyone talking about 2006, which is surprising.

The state has changed significantly since 2006.  I today's electorate was voting in 2006, Allen would have lost by five points.

Yes, I'm aware.  I was referring to the specific gaffe, which was the point of this thread.

If Obama is running several points ahead of Romney, of course Kaine will be too. How many Obama/Allen voters can there be?

I'm inclined to believe there are more Romney/Kaine voters than Obama/Allen. Southwest Virginia swung heavily against Obama in 2008 (relative to Kerry) but Kaine performed a lot better in comparison. He'll probably run 1-2 points ahead of Obama on election night.

Can anyone find an on-line article posted about Allen repeatedly using the N-word at private functions--even as a senator--posted before the 2006 election? It was written by a Republican who I believe was a lobbyist (former?) for the National Association of Relators. There was a thread about it on the Forum, but I can't find it here or on-line anymore. Sad

WHOOPS!! Sorry, I meant Allen. It was late when I typed that.

Like I said, I know it was at least mentioned in a thread during the 06 election here. May not have had it's own topic thread, but there was at least a post with a link in a VA senate race thread.

more than you might think.  Allen's favorables are much higher than Romney's. He's still remembered as a pretty good governor.
