Against, say, Cuomo/Klobuchar? Absolutely.

Huntsman had consistant high approval rating above 80% while running governor of Utah.  He can translate that to an effective candidate in the 2016 race.

Absolutely. Would easily get my vote. Ryan/Huntsman or Huntsman/Ryan would be perfect. Flawless, if you will.

What about Jon Huntsman with Susana Martinez as his running mate? Or is that too much Southwest?

Meh... I'm not thrilled with Martinez but she would do fine. She seems more populist IMO.

He would be my first choice in 2016. I'm just not confident that he would make it through the primary. Maybe if this year is bad enough, they will realize they need a new approach.

Huntsman would have run a far more credible campaign against Obama than Romney has.  All in all, he was the most grown-up candidate the GOP had to offer.

Again, I don't understand the fact that he likes Romney but hates Huntsman.

A lot of people love Huntsman because he's a "true conservative" or something based on his record, but it's hard to not govern as a conservative in Utah. Plus, I don't really consider myself an American conservative, so it's an irrelevant argument to me.

Huntsman is just obviously not a team player. At least in the way he has carried himself in public, he has shown himself to be culturally closer to the people we should be opposing. There are acceptable and unacceptable ways to criticize the party. For example, Jeb Bush and Lindsay Graham, both excellent Republicans, give very good critiques about the position of many GOPers on immigration.

Huntsman, in his campaign, went out of his way to essentially belittle the rank and file in order to draw support from a narrow group of cultural leftists. He is completely disqualified from being the standard-bearer of our party.

In short, no matter what his policies are, I can't view him as "one of us".

Because he believes in evolution?

I'm not a fan of Huntsman but I might consider voting for him, I honestly don't know a whole lot about him, if he believes in evolution that's a plus for him in my book though.

Maybe if it was switched to Huntsman/Ryan, but I'd prefer someone other than Ryan.

I think the Dem nominee should pick Huntsman.

Huntsman is actually super-conservative economically and passed a bill making abortion harder in Utah, so don't be too hasty in wanting him to be a Dem.

Ryan is NOT going to be the nominee unless he's Vice President Ryan running in 2020. He's just not getting nearly enough attention to become the new star of the party and frontrunner for 2016 over Christie, Rubio, etc. If he has the loser stench people will care even less about him. He jumped on a sinking ship and can't get off now. He's a footnote in the history books and will only be remembered for his hot body and being a pathological liar, if he's remembered at all. Sarah Palin had a better shot at 2012 than he will at 2016.

Since Huntsman hates Romney; and Romney hates Huntsman; there is almost no chance that Ryan would ever join a Huntsman ticket.

Ryan will need to keep Romney's circle of donors and supporters, especially the Wall Street donors on his side.

Huntsman is a maverick, and lone mavericks are only beholden to their own personal wealth and wants, and usually piss off a lot of people supposedly on his side. McCain is an example of a wealthy maverick, who has a voter turnout of 1 person, himself.

I don't see Huntsman being on any national ticket. Too moderate, and he'd piss off the base.
