I agree on the areas of policy that are specific to the SoIA, having a CoIA as it were would certainly help ensure that the SoIA be active and engaged. If he constantly has a dedicated committee looking over his shoulder to satisfy.

As ofr the lack of communication/interaction, that in my opinion is systemtic nad the same probably applies to the SoEA as well, atleast at various points in our history. The only committee with the breadth to attack this problem is and will remain the GOR.

I'd like to wait to see what happens with the Getting Real About the Cabinet Act before I comment too much on this bill.

I do agree though that we sort of need a committee like this one if we're going to have a committee system. The trouble is, will we ever have an SoIA who'll actually appear in front of this committee? You seem to have faith that the problem is not with the SoIA, but with the fact that he doesn't have enough to do. I disagree. And since the Contempt of Congress Act seems to have failed, there's no way to ensure that we'll have the SoIA's co-operation with this committee. Without a willingness on the part of this cabinet secretary to participate, the committee becomes a little superluous—and I would hate to sign off on a bill that would pointlessly expand the bureaucracy. This bill would make the consequences of an inactive SoIA even more problematic.

Still, I'll probably support the bill... but I have reservations.

He has plenty to do already, this is about ensuring that there is interaction that will require he be active or replaced.

There may be other ways to approach the contempt issue that will pass.

Damn it this still has a little under 24 hours left.

I ask Unanimous Consent to waive the cloture requirement to proceed immediately to a final vote, Senators have 24 hours to object.

This way when the minimum debate time expires we can just open the vote, basically and won't have to worry about any subsequent discussion. Unless someone objects of course. I didn't include the debate time minimum in the UC because it will run out a few minutes  before the UC does on its own anyway.

This cloture vote is failing bitches and we are stuck in it until tomorrow. CAN YOU BELIVE THAT WE WAISTED A WEEK ON A PROCEDURAL VOTE ONLY TO HAVE A IT FAIL?!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is why I created UC to render cloture unnecessary.

Standard Operating proceduce now is:

1. Everybody STFU for 24 hours
2. UC for one someone accidentally forgets
3. Cloture for when someone refuses to STFU and everyone else thinks he should.

This should have been waived through and instead has been messed up for a whole week. I will never forgive you for this Marokai. Because fake bills in a political simulation are obviously serious business. Tongue

I had planned to end this last night but I have only been able to get on for short periods of time on here, because of a problem with the internet. The phone jack in which it was plugged in burnt out. We replaced it and now it is back to normal. sh**tty, but in a normal kind of way. Tongue

Final Vote on passage of the Senate Committee on Internal Affairs Resolution:
Aye (4): Ben, Franzl, NC Yankee, and Scott
Nay (0):
Abstain (2): Marokai Blue and sbane

Didn't Vote (4): Bacon King, Hagrid, NVTownsend, and Redalgo

The resolution has passed.

We spent 2/3rds of a month on something that should have been waived through, now we only have two weeks left, we couldn't get it up and running before the end of the Senate if we started tonight. This is despicable. First we had dillatory tactics employed, it takes a weeks to wait for a cloture vote to fail because too few vote on it, and then it takes a week to produce a 4-0-2 vote? How can you justify this. A WEEK!!! I understand finals and other concerns, but damn it. A ING WEEK!!!!

I still think it is a despicable result whether it is 4-0-2 or 4-0-3. Tongue
