If the Democrats lose this Providence-based district in freaking Rhode Island, they need to disband as a party forever.

This race is not about democrats, it's about Ciciline. If the race was Generic D vs. Generic R, D would win by 20.

There was a great opportunity to primary the clown. The dems failed to do so.

They did, but a majority of RI-01 democrats still like the guy, even if his approval is just over 50% with them.

I think we're safe here. Cicilline may be unpopular but it's freaking Providence...

And only 65% are supporting his bid for re-election. He's being saved by the fact that independents are only breaking modestly for the Republican, instead of the 2:1 superbreak a New England Republican needs to win.

Missed this thread. My bad!

The reason he didn't lose the primary was because the guy who primaried him, Anthony Gemma, was a clown himself. Businessman who peddled in conspiracy theories about Cicilline and failed to actually, you know, SAY THINGS A DEMOCRAT WOULD SAY. I actually think he inadvertantly helped Cicilline.

The upsetting part is that Rhode Island Democrats put the fix in here. They made this district far more Democratic than it was before to bolster Cicilline in the general, and then made it very clear that a primary challenger would not be tolerated.
