Dude, it is obvious that anyone who could attend an Ivy League institution is a member of a privileged elite, and that 'merit' has nothing to do with their privilege.
That is really indefensible.
Roughly 2/3rds of all students at Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and Stanford receive grants that cover more than half their cost of attendance. Furthermore, at these 4 schools, students from families with household incomes under $60,000 are asked to contribute
nothing beyond the earnings from a part time job on campus. That's more than half of all households in America that qualify for a free ride! I am aware this wasn't the case in Mitt's era, but it is today. However, this is also a strong argument that you can have a functional, productive society where only a small minority of the population pays taxes on net.
